He has't even announced his candidacy and he has taken some potential votes from Giuliani and Romney. This guy would also be a nice alternative to those who like McCain's stances but aren't enamoured with him personally. Thompson's acting experience will be of great help and his voice definitely will come across as honest, plus he is strong on defense, which is a plus with the republican base.

If the Democrats throw Hillary into the election, Thompson can possibly take ALL of the south by a fairly large margin.

Fred Thompson Takes First Step in Presidential Run, Opposes Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Former Tennessee senator and well-known actor Fred Thompson has taken the first step in what could be a full-fledged candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008. Thompson will file paperwork on Friday saying he is considering an exploratory committee allowing him to start raising funds. Advisors to Thompson said the statement of potential candidacy could lead to some initial fundraising that may result in an official candidacy announcement near the July 4 Independence Day weekend. The advisors told the Washington Post that Thompson has asked closed friends and supports to raise a few hundred thousand dollars on his behalf and he plans to use the funds to open a campaign office and hire initial staff members. Thompson is an actor, attorney and former senator from the state of Tennessee who says he strongly opposes abortion. As recently as March, Thompson commented on the issue of abortion and said he's resolutely against it, adding that he supports overturning Roe v. Wade. Thompson told Fox News he is pro-life and wants the high court to reverse its decision in Roe -- calling it "bad law and bad medical science." "I don't think the court ought to wake up one day and make new social policy for the country that's contrary to what it's been for the last 200 years. We have a process in this country to do that," he said about the Roe decision. "Judges shouldn't be doing that. That's what happened in the that case. I think it was wrong," he added.

If he is as good as Novak says he is, this guy is going to be what conservatives have wanted for almost 15 years now....

I really think this guy has a good shot to taking this nomination! However, I like Ross Perrot too?

Fred Thompson Tells Pro-Life Conference He Opposes Abortion, ESCR
Kansas City, MO (LifeNews.com) -- Fred Thompson hasn't announced his candidacy for the GOP nomination for president, but he looked like one when addressing the National Right to Life convention last week. Thompson sent a video message to the 1,200 attendees and said he opposed both abortion and embryonic stem cell research. The video showed the former Tennessee senator with his wife and two young girls and he told pro-life advocates that his family helps him appreciate pro-life values. "When I was in the Senate a lot of people would come to see me and it usually would have to do with business matters or financial matters," Thompson said. "When you came to see me, I always knew it was about something much more important than that, the most important thing of all in this World and that is life." "I must say that those issues are even more profound to me as the years go by. Jeri and I have truly been blessed," the well-known actor added. The potential presidential candidate also spoke extensively on the issue of embryonic stem cell research for the first time since the buzz built up about the possibility of him running. His comments put him in line with the pro-life movement at a time when other candidates who oppose abortion, like John McCain or Tommy Thompson, favor the destructive science. "On stem cell research, I"m for adult stem cell research not stem cell research where embryos of unborn children are destroyed. It looks to me like there is a lot of promising developments as far as adult stem cell research is concerned anyway and we don't need to go down that other road," Thompson said.

Fred Thompson Defends Pro-Life Record on Abortion in New Hampshire
Bedford, NH (LifeNews.com) -- Fresh from a Sunday interview during which he said he would support overturning Roe v. Wade but not a human life amendment, Fred Thompson defended his pro-life views. In New Hampshire, Thompson said he is adamantly pro-life even though he won't go further than letting the states pass their own abortion laws. Thompson said he is "100 percent pro-life" despite comments he made Sunday on the NBC "Meet the Press" program. He told voters in the early primary state he would always support efforts to stop abortion. "My record is clear. One hundred percent pro-life voting record over eight years at the national level. The proof is in the pudding there," he said. "Go back and look at all that record. My whole career I have said Roe versus Wade was wrongfully decided. I've been pro-life all my career and always will be," Thompson added. Thompson went further and contrasted what he said were his consistent pro-life views throughout his career with candidates like Mitt Romney, who have changed their views on abortion. "The difference with me and most of the rest of them is that's where I was yesterday, that's where I am today and that's where I will be tomorrow," he said.

Fred Thompson Defends Overturning Abortion Case, Calls It Pro-Life Victory
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- In what has become a weekly ritual, Fred Thompson appeared on a Sunday political talk show and asked again to discuss his position on abortion. Thompson said he takes a pro-life position and favors overturning Roe v. Wade and allowing states the opportunity to ban abortions as they did before the 1973 case. The former Tennessee senator appeared on the Fox News Sunday program and Chris Wallace asked him if he believed that "life begins at conception" and that "abortion is the taking of life." Thompson answered yes to both questions. Thompson said he favors doing something that can be accomplished and will save countless lives of unborn children. "What I've been talking about is directing our energy toward something that was halfway practical, something that might could get done. That has to do with federal judges. It has to do with the Supreme Court. It has to do with Roe vs. Wade," he told Wallace. "So now where we have no states with the option of doing anything about it, then we would have however many states wanted to. You could move from zero yard line, you know, to the 60- or 70-yard line instead of standing pat, which is what we're doing how, which is where we will remain if we don't abolish Roe vs. Wade," Thompson explained.
