Peanut Butter Sales Drop
It seems like Peanut Butter Sales have dropped significantly for all Peanut Butter makers despite the salmonella issue being isolated. For me this shows that paranoia still has a significant impact in the US. Do you still buy peanut butter?

I am sure it has deterred some but also peanut allergies have become rampant. You can eat it in schools so I am sure that is also having an impact. We do not buy it now my son have become allergic to it in the last year.
Four former officials of the Peanut Corporation of America were named in a 75-count indictment on charges related to salmonella-tainted peanuts and peanut products. The charges cap an inquiry that began in 2009. Ref. USAToday
A former peanut company owner was sentenced to 28 years for knowingly shipping out salmonella-tainted products in a 2008 outbreak that killed nine people and sickened hundreds of others.

Hysteria drives the masses far more than any semblance of intelligence. Since jams and jellies are complementary items to peanut butter, I wonder how adversely this was to their bottom line. It also brings into question if the various other nut and seed butters saw an uptick in their sales. Peanut butter is still big in my house. My first, second, and fourth daughters love creamy, but my third shares my love of crunchy.
