What do you think about the position of these residents with regards to how the police handles gangs?
ALTADENA - At a contentious Town Hall meeting Thursday, residents of the unincorporated community blasted the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for its use of force and the tactics employed to combat gangs.
Thursday's meeting came after the third incident where a deputy from the sheriff's Altadena Station was accused of using excessive force in 2010.
Capt. Steven McLean, of the Altadena Station, opened the meeting by listing off crime statistics that show a decrease in most major crimes in the area since his arrival.
Audience members grew restless as McLean assured residents that deputies under his charge would follow the "policies" of the department when on patrol.
Steve Lamb of Altadena pressed McLean on gang enforcement tactics.
"I happened to get my haircut at a place identified as a gang hangout," he said. "And I don't look like a gang member.".
