Ohio seems to be struggling with high crime and unemployment. I wonder what is being done in the area to try to decrease the number of murders?
COLUMBUS, Ohio — It's only October, and already the city has suffered more homicides than it did in all of 2009.
Columbus recorded its 83rd and 84th homicides of the year on Thursday, when two men were shot and killed on the city's west side.
Officers called to the corner of Olive Street and Eureka Avenue on Thursday afternoon found Brandon Bufford, 21, and Chris Russell, 27, lying wounded with gunshot wounds. Both men died at the scene.
Residents in the area reported hearing roughly a dozen gunshots, and police said it appeared the two men shot and killed each other.
With the killings, Columbus surpassed last year's homicide total of 83. Just as troubling is the number of young people killed in violent crimes.
According to police, 23 of this year's homicides involved victims 20 or younger.
Meanwhile, on the city's north side, two shootings on the same street left a pair of people wounded.
Both victims, police said, were inside separate apartments on Shanley Drive when a gunman opened fire. The shootings happened about an hour apart, 10TV's Shayla Reaves reported.
One of the victims was shot in the chest and transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition, Reaves reported. The other victim's injuries were not as serious, investigators said.
Authorities did not release the identities of the victims.
No arrests were made...
