I think the Zika virus was not as bad here in the United States due to the better hygiene of the American people compared to other places in the world. I think if people practice good hygiene then they will get sick much less and recover more quickly.

Plus, I think Zika may thrive a bit more in a tropical or sub-tropical environment… which the vast majority of the US is not. The issue for that is, eventually it may adapt to our environment.

Viruses are always changing and adopting to their environment that is the big issue with the drug companies and the possibility of developing a super bug that will be resistant to all of our antibiotics. I think the Zika virus while yes a tropical or sub tropical virus could not get a firm hold here in the states due to the hygiene here and therefore could not adopt quick enough before dying out.

That's what makes Zika so deadly it acts a lot like AIDS in the way it works in the human body. Who would have thought the common mosquito would be the demise of so many people.

Zika is a interesting disease. The fact that it tends to effect more of a poorer culture of people than a more modern culture shows that we have to do much more in making everyone in the world understand the importance of being clean.
