There is more evidence that shows Zika may actually cause birth defects based on studies done using stem cells. Due to the 'newness' of the virus nothing is conclusive yet but pregnant women definitely have to be extra cautious and later the WHO may need to reexamine their stance on it.

Genetic cues from male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes passed on during sex affect which genes are turned on or off in a females' reproductive tract post-mating, including genes related to blood feeding, egg development and immune defense, according to new research.The researchers believe such processes provide information that could be exploited to fight mosquito-borne diseases, such as dengue fever, chikungunya and Zika virus. I haven't given Zika much thought. I only heard about it because its happening in Brazil where all the athletes are going for the Olympics. I don't live a promiscuous lifestyle and keep away from mosquito ridden areas so I'm good. wink.gif.

Zika virus can be detected in blood samples taken from a pregnant woman while brain damage is developing, as well as isolated in cell culture from the brain tissue of the fetus. Ref. Source 9p.
