"Lightning's got the right of it. Never undervalue yourself, I always say." Aquamarine furrowed her brow. "What, exactly, is this crucible? How big is it? Is it safe to touch? How are we getting it back here? If others know we have it, can they easily find it once we remove it from its hidey-hole? I don't fancy flailing about once we find this thing."
Mythos would hear Lightening out, noding at their concerns and in agrement in what they said before offer words of his own. “Yet themes of corruption can also be quite potent, and can still go will with that of redemption. For that which is good, innocent, or noble to be tainted and twisted into something monstrous. For those with the best of intentions being blinded to the evil growing in their own heart. For one to fall, become lost, and require help from another in which to be redeemed and purified,” he would offer this would a knowledge of what can make a great story, and the what can make a powerful narrative, “The cursed armour would merely be the catalyst of the change, the shadowy entity the dark and corrupting influence. The acts of those six heroines using the Elements of Harmony, their friendship and cooperation, their actions which saved Luna and lead to her redemption are all still there. That has not been lost with my theory, merely perhaps somewhat changed.”
“On to what you will receive,” Mythos would say in answer to the stallions other questions, “Niether the school, the church, nor any guild with have anything to do with this… as such I will be funding this from my own pocket. Thankfully I have saved quite a bit over the years. I will make sure you are outfitted with whatever you may need for your journey, even make sure a ship is available though a captain and crew is still being acquired, with any other funds that may be needed such as food and lodging. Such should be finalized by tomorrow morning. On the rest, such as what I would actually pay each of you, it mattered partly on how many would answer my notice.”
"Most crucibles are anywhere from three and a half inches to nine and a forth inches in height, with top diameter from two and a half to seven and an eighth inches, along with bottom diameter being almost two inches to five and a half," he would say, offering his magic again to show what it would look like before adding, "Based on a few images I have found that may be of it, the artifact would be a bilge crucible and in the larger range of the measurements I gave."
“On whether it would be safe to touch, I am not positive,” Mythos would admit, feeling honesty would be for the best in this instance before explaining, “some cursed or tainted artifacts can harm you just by touching them, though most often such would be subtle, yet other times you can handle it just fine and it takes actually using it for any ill effects to take place. Artifacts of any type, size, or power can be like that with any effect happening instantly while in other cases certain actions or works must take place.”
Feeling an example was in order the grey unicorn would offer, “Take the Elements of Harmony, when not being used they are for all intents simple gems or jewelry, taking the right conditions to be met before they are activated. More recently, from what I have been able to gather, they have been returned to their proper place and the Six Paragons can use its powers more directly with a physical transformation… no items or artifacts even needed. I am most curious of this, though that is for another day.”
“On how you would get it here, I have a few plans for such, with spells and scrolls put aside to help transfer the Crucible of Stars here. Now mattering the sort of trouble or risk that presents itself the method may change, and though such has its dangers I can even setup a ritual that can transport both it and all of you back here safely,” it would be clear the professor had given this quite a bit of though, and possibly had many countermeasures planned to have this succeed without error. Still, there was much unknown, such who the party would have to face and stand against, who would all be interested in the Crucible.
Out of Character: Another long post, feeling all this is coming off a bit too expositiony and long winded. I hope I'm not boring all of you… or giving too much away with some details.
This should hopefully not take much longer and we can get everyone started on the actual adventure.
Aquamarine visibly quivered as Mythos finished his impromptu lecture. "Looking for a captain, are you? Search no more!
"With grand aplomb and predigious pomp, I must reintroduce myself!" A seafoam aura lifted the feathered cap from the unicorn's head and brought it to her chest as she swept into a deep bow. "Captain Aquamarine, seamare extraordinaire, veteran of the Royal Equestrian Marine Service, mare of good standing in the Eastern Equestrian Consortium, and the best choice you'll find to command your ship within a hundred leagues!" Aquamarine finished by sweeping her hat back onto her head and smiling broadly.
"Well, that seems fortuitous." Lightning nodded with a smile toward the sea captain. He disagreed with the professor's idea about the parable, but kept his concerns to himself. He could sense that his last voicing of opinion had bothered Star Walker, who was Luna's biggest fan. The fact was, that story was a tale of how friendship triumphed over jealousy, something that relates to all ponies. Changing the story to 'beware cursed items' makes it effectively meaningless to Lightning's eyes. Still, he's not being hired to debate philosophy or theology. He's being hired to recover a potentially lost artifact. Haggling, he also left to the captain. As someone who worked with Merchants, she was undoubtedly more qualified to barter.
Star Walker was a bit nervous, although he tried to hide it. Not knowing whether it is safe to interact with made the Crucible a bit less desirable to find. However, it is important, so he must do it.
At the mention of a captain, a captain stood forth. "Well, that is incredibly fortunate. Whether fate or luck, we were given what we needed. I would be happy to have you as our captain. You seem to be the kind of pony that would sense danger an hour away. While smooth sailing isn't guaranteed, it will probably go better with somepony experienced like you."
Mythos would clap his hooves together, suprised yet pleased that luck would so much be on their side in this case with one of the ponies before him being a sea captain. This this would lead to the professor replying, "It is a pleasure to meet you Captain, it is quite fortunate that you are here."
Considering her he would continue with the question, "Still, surely you have your own ship and a trusted crew that is loyal to you, which would be better then strangers and a ship you have not been on before?" It did seem odd for the mare to be looking into notices on the Central Board instead of doing whatever sea captianing would make sense for her.
Perhaps the captain had a small ship and hired our her and her crew for salvage operations like this one. That made sense to Lightning, although if that were the case, she could make a good case for not needing him and Star Walker. Not that she would get rid of Star Walker easily. If worse came to worse, he could happily hunt cultists.
