Learning empathy through art in prison

Inmates at Donovan state prison are learning more than how to sketch and paint in a special art program created and taught by a sociology professor. Inmates, many serving life sentences, said art is a form of freedom that allows them to learn more about themselves. Ref. Source 1j.

Painting and fine arts are excellent ways to rehabilitate inmates. Also in-prison art has a lot of tradition. Prison songs were some of the first of the Blues genre. And in all prisons, and especially in Russia, tattoo art has its own tradition and subculture.

This is good for those people who live hardened lives so that they can rehabilitate and learn from themselves through the use of art. We need more therapy like this in prisons as it can not also benefit them but others might as well.
