One dead in officer-involved shooting near Ferguson, Mo.

One person is dead after a police officer-involved shooting in north St. Louis, KSDK-TV reports. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, which is about four miles from the unrest in Ferguson. Ref. USAToday

A police officer from St. Ann, Missouri, has been relieved of duty and suspended indefinitely after pointing an assault rifle at a peaceful protester in Ferguson, the St. Louis County Police Department said in a statement.

Ferguson has been the site of protests and turmoil since the August 9 shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. Ferguson police named Officer Darren Wilson as the person who shot Brown. Ref. CNN

The latest killing of a black man by a white officer I would say is totally justifiable. The suspect was told multiple times to drop the knife but he still kept getting closer to the officers. Without knowing what would happen if the suspect got close enough to stab or otherwise assault a officer they took the correct action in firing upon him.

Reports: DOJ to investigate Ferguson police department

The Justice Department is preparing to investigate the Ferguson, Missouri, police department, 'The Washington Post' and CNN report. The probe follows the fatal shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown by a Ferguson officer in August. Ref. USAToday

Ferguson, Missouri, Police Chief Thomas Jackson apologized via video to the parents of Michael Brown, as well as to any peaceful protesters who feel he didn't do "Enough to protect their constitutional right to protest."

Specifically, he apologized that it took investigating officers four hours to remove Brown's body from the street after Officer Darren Wilson fatally shot him last month.

"I'm truly sorry for the loss of your son. I'm also sorry that it took so long to remove Michael from the street," He said.

The town was cast into the national spotlight when protests erupted following Wilson's shooting of the 18-year-old Brown. Ref. CNN
