Man Critical After Shootout At Football Match

Imagine if there were little kids around playing! There are no words I can describe how I feel at the moment to be living in this place.

A FRIENDLY football match between teenaged teams came to an abrupt end yesterday, when shots were fired on the field of play at San Juan, injuring a man.

Reports are around 6 p.m., while an under-15 game was in progress, two men, one in pursuit of the other, ran across the football field at Bourg Mulatresse. The first man was running from the second, who had a firearm, an eyewitness said.

The eyewitness explained that in full view of all present, including footballers, parents and other spectators, the first man was shot in the back of his head.

The shot man was last night identified by police as 23-year-old Kerwin Monroe, also known as Danny. Up to press time, he was in a critical condition at the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he was rushed after the shooting.

The eyewitness said Monroe was shot as the two men neared the goal post, and as he fell to the ground, he was shot several more times by the gunman...
