Vegetable Oil Truck Conversion

Ryan Hunt converted his diesel truck to run on vegetable oil. I wonder how well it runs and the cost of the conversion.

Well I do not think it is huge a few grand by the looks of it. Remember diesel is a very forgiving motor though I have to ponder the emission issue that might stem from this. Burning dirty oil does not seem like a process that will result in a very good burn. I realize it will be heavily filtered prior use but one has to ponder it. If had my own restaurant I would most certainly convert as you are using material that is waste.(even though it is better composted then burn into the atmosphere.)

Just found this site give great details on the process not much involved really and might be better in pollution then straight diesel. I think the bio diesel option would be cheapest route. Sorry yes it does have to be diesel as this stuff would just gum up normal injectors and such.

I know country star Willie Nelson drives around in a bus that has been converted to run on vegetable oil. I think he has no problems getting around. I have heard the emissions makes one hungry because smells like fries. I know a lot of people who harvest vegetable oil to make bio diesel out of it. There must be something that is working somewhere for this all to work.

Yes it works just not real sure that vegetable oil if you have to buy it is any cheaper then gas. mileage is roughly the same and the motor it appears might run cooler which might be bad for a diesel due to motor wear and tear. A diesel motor is best kept clean by working it harder almost the opposite of a gas motor. It is also going to do little to keep food prices in check.

If I had a kitchen that used a ton of oil on a weekly bases then I would consider it. Diesel will run on just about anything that is the beautiful part about them. Stove oil fuels used oil mixed with gas might not run great but if stuck you might just get to help.

Cat diesels are the best for that in fact in my area I have a machine shop that sole set up genny sets for the Mennonite community using cat motors for that reason. Stove oil is half the cost of diesel or was at the time I met him. Come time for pollution check might be a big issue though.
