Yes, a 21 food ladder works on a 20 foot wall. That doesn't mean we shouldn't do something to secure our borders. There are people living in TX and AZ who fear for their lives because of some of the people crossing the border. Not everyone. Not even the majority, but enough bad people. One of the most important things the country does is to protect our citizens.
One can always find a way to get around, over, under, or through an obstacle. We learned in the military obstacles aren't meant to stop someone, they are meant to slow them down so that we could deal with them another way. As another example, I built a safe-house in Kabul, Afghanistan. My idea wasn't to stop an attack, there is no such thing as a system that will completely block a determined attacker. No, my safe-house was there to do one of two things, a) make it so difficult that the cost wasn't worth the return or B) slow them down enough so I get my people to safety.
I believe they are thinking of using an electric fence but all that will do is make them big more elaborate tunnels. Then again there is an exodus of immigrants from America now, Donald has made it a volatile place to be for any foreigner south of the boarder.

The wall might stop a few ameturs from trying to run across the border above ground but the professional criminals with the cartels have elaborate tunnels all over the border that they're using to bring their drugs across.

Stacia, you are correct regarding tunnels. And as part of building the wall the plan is to use very sophisticated devices to find those tunnels and close them down. Now the rest of this is a guess, but I bet they will put sensors on the wall that would "Feel" someone tunneling underneath and we could react. This technology is part of the reason the wall is so expensive. Edited: Abnninja on 2nd Feb, 2017 - 4:52pm
President Donald Trump's plan to build a wall on the border with Mexico is facing a major problem: A wall of resistance from his own party, threatening to derail his central campaign promise.
A growing number of congressional Republicans are objecting to the cost and viability of a proposal that was a rallying cry for the billionaire businessman during his insurgent campaign. Interviews with more than a dozen GOP lawmakers across the ideological spectrum suggest Trump could have a difficult time getting funding for his plan approved by Congress.
Many bluntly told CNN they'd likely vote against any Trump plan that is not fully offset with spending cuts, while others questioned whether Trump's vision would adequately resolve the problems at the border. Ref. CNN.
I fundamentally disagree with those who disagree with a wall. The wall is definitely not the end all do all for our border problems, it is simply a step in deterrence that requires supporting measures. If we are serious about securing our border then this wall would be part of a larger plan that uses multiple means to secure our border.
Trump border 'wall' to cost $21.6 billion, take 3.5 years to build: internal report:
The report's estimated price-tag is much higher than a $12-billion figure cited by Trump in his campaign and estimates as high as $15 billion from Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan Ref. Source 2b
Trump is making the environment volatile against immigrants to the point that immigrants will want to go back to their own countries rather than stay here.
