Autism Hand Flapping
Hand flapping is consiudered an early sign of Autism, but could it just be something kids do? What are your thoughts?

The little boy that I look after has done this since he's been about 2, and nobody has done a test for Autism, although they've tested for everything else.
They are now putting him forward for this test which I believe is called ADOS (the initials stand for something-but not sure what) but apparently the test is supposed to be quite clarifying as to whether a child is autistic or not, and I was told that it could be paid for privately in the UK for around £500/$1000 although this is a very high price to have to find.
JB, all kids play with their hands but autistic children flap their hands in a particular way as shown in the video, they do it to increase stimuli (excited) or to help decrease it.
Rather off topic, but... Diane, ADOS stand for Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule there are two types, one for low functioning autistic people and another for high functioning ones. Oh, how I wish we could have that here! |
