Help With Presentation About Mormons

Comments: Hello. I am a graduate student in West Virginia. My boyfriend is Mormon, although he does not know a lot about the lifestyle and culture of Mormons. I am doing a research project/presentation for one of my classes and could really use help in finding and learning about the Mormon history, culture and lifestyle. Examples of things include: food storage-requirement, type of clothing worn by individuals, education, monetary savings, sexual relations, etc. If anyone can be of assistance please [reply]. Mormons Presentation Help

As far as dress goes, you would not know a Mormon if you passed them on the street by they way they dress necessarily. Other than perhaps dressing a little more modestly they dress the same as anyone else. Nothing very revealing. Clothes won't be as low cut or as tight as some of today's fashions, but that's about it.

Mormon's are generally, as a whole, more educated than the general public at large. By that I mean, a higher percentage have college education, with more women graduating college and more LDS women work in professional occupations than some of the other mainstream religions.

This is because the Church places high value on education.

Members are taught to avoid debt and to be fiscally responsible. Some are very good at following this guidance, others are not.
Sexual relations outside of marriage is strongly discouraged and could be grounds for Church discipline.

Is this the same religious group that were in news recently about the underage marriage of young girls? For me they were dressed in attire fit for the 1800s?

Krusten I think that is a spin off church your referring to. I talk to mormons everyday and they are dressed just as nicely as I am. I talk to them at work so maybe that has something to do with it. I find their style of dress comfortable and serviceable. I plan on learning more about the LDS belief system and searching on here has helped a lot.

As far as the educational part of the LDS I was not aware of the church placing such a high regard on education. Thanks for that information Alskann.

Oh I get it. If they are a spin off why do they also call themselves Mormons too or is that like say "Christian" for them?

I believe they call them selves mormons because that is the basis of their belief system. Just like the you have the catholic church as a spin off of the roman catholic church. Many of the beliefs are the same but there is enough of a difference for them to be separate. Does that help?
