John Allen Muhammad I was in Maryland when this was happening and many were very scared. People were doing things in public wondering if they would be the next victim.

I remember these events very well. In fact, I almost took a job in 1999, in the same county (Montgomery) where these events unfolded. I could not imagine living in this type of fear, day in and day out. I know of people who decided not to leave their homes, for fear of being the next target. Tarps were hung over gas stations to provide some type of cover so the snipers would not have a clear shot. I did feel pity for the young man, Lee Malvo, but in the same breath, he should have done something more instead of continuing to engage in the sniper activities. As I recall, John Allen Muhammad was sentenced to death; a fitting sentence for such a twisted killer.

He got what he deserved. My goodness how he killed all those people, the whole thing was just horrific. What happened with his son? I don't recall all the details of this case but I think his son was involved as well?

Lee Malvo, the teen killer, was moved around a lot at a young age and lack of consistent parent figures in his lives caused him to bind with Muhammad. Muhammad rewarded him with water, raisins and crackers. Malvo just wanted to be accepted. It seems that Muhammad used the killings as a way to divert attention when he attempted to kill the mother in order to get custody of the children.
There is a movie about these murders: Source 5

Judge tosses out 2 life sentences for D.C. Sniper Lee Boyd Malvo after Supreme Court rules mandatory life sentences for juveniles unconstitutional. Malvo was 17 when he was arrested in 2002 for a series of shootings that killed 10 people and wounded three in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, causing widespread fear throughout the region. I think that someone like him being 17 should have been ruled an adult for the crimes that he committed and thus be able to be kept in prison longer. I think some one who can shoot others without knowing them at random is one of the most dangerous criminal elements out there. Now he will need to be resentenced?
