Pit Bulls Put Fear In My Heart

I was never crazy about dogs. But the Pit Bull just puts fear in my heart ! My heart starts to pound and my palms get sweaty when I see a Pit Bull. Pit Bulls are banned in Germany so I don't have to worry about one walking up on me. What are your thoughts about the Pit Bull.

Well I do not get so emotional about them, but they are vicious. They were bred to be that way and they are only fulfilling the demands of their masters. Over the years many have killed humans and some policemen have described having to empty their guns on one before it would die. Like everything else, these creatures have weaknesses, if one ever gets hold of you then go for the eyes and the privates, but whatever you do, don't fall to the ground - especially if there is more than one of them.

I have never believed that there are vicious dog by nature. It is humans who train them to be vicious. There are aggressive breeds and the pit bull is one of them, but even a cocker spaniel can be vicious if trained. I have known people with pit bulls that they raised from little pups that they would allow around their children and other pets. If properly trained and disciplined at a very young age, even a pit bull can be a gentle pet. Years ago people used to fear the doberman pincher, but there too it was more a case of training than of breeding. A friend of mine has a doberman and rottweiler cross and she is the sweetest dog around. All dogs have a basic aggressiveness in their nature, some have more than others, but a dog needs to be trained to be vicious.

I would tend to agree with JB, because I had a friend who had pitbulls that he raised from pups, and he did not go out of his way to train them to be vicious. One day, while he was playing with them, their 'instinct' came out, and they attacked him, and he ended up losing a finger at the end. I really do believe they are instinctually fierce, and probably should not be pets in houses with small children.

I agree with ReneeiXena. It is not the pitbull but the person who is training and taking care of it. Most people have negative notions about them because there are many pitbull owners who buy the dogs and breed them to be fighters and/or mean and don't love them as pets. The breed of pitbull can be as loving dog as any other breed of dogs. If one researches this and doesn't base one's beliefs completely on fear and the savage stories about killer pit bulls owned by irresponsible people, I believe one will find this to be true. Malealexander just brought up an excellent point. The 'instinct'. So whether you raised a pit bull to be a loving and beautiful doggie who plays with your kids and stuff, you never know when they may attack...it is nature! and it happens really with most animals, but pitbulls are particularly agressive. I know two cases in Argentina of two pit bulls, one almost killed his own owner and the other killed a newborn. I don't like pit bulls, here in Trinidad recently two of them who were running around jumped a fence and killed an elderly lady. Terrible.

I understand the concerns about pitbulls and all of the horror stories. I just ask to please research how many loving pitbulls there are in the world living in loving homes that we never hear about in the news because who wants to hear about loving doggies!! I know of many loving pitbulls. Please just go beyond the isolated stories and see the wonderful, loving pitbulls in all of the other homes that we never hear about. wink.gif
