| Hundreds of war veterans, friends and relatives fanned their faces Thursday against the afternoon sun and listened as various Iowa dignitaries spoke at length about what the Iowa Veterans Cemetery should mean to them. Former Gov. Tom Vilsack said the $7.6 million cemetery, just south of Interstate Highway 80 at the Van Meter exit, reflected two fundamental Iowa values: The call to serve a higher purpose and uninhibited generosity. U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley said Iowa's first state-run veterans cemetery will be a final resting place for the freedom fighters, the ones who owed nothing to their country and yet gave everything. |
I think it is nice to have a state run Veterans cemetery here is Iowa. having it close to home will make it easier to go visit some of the people laid to rest there.
