Three of my siblings have children with autism. One has the severe form. Only one of them is being monitored and treated by a pediatric neuro developmental specialist where getting a consultation appointment is difficult. Majority of people knows the word autism and they usually equate it with mental retardation or they simply call them "Abnormal." Most don't get education or therapy and usually just stay home, like my sister's son. No formal education too.
We have the Autism Society of the Philippines. But I think majority of families with autism affected children do not avail such support group since most of them just hide their children in their homes. There is no free public schooling, therapy and services for patients with autism.
