Earlier, Janay Rice apparently posted a statement on Instagram, calling the situation a "Nightmare."

The Baltimore Ravens released Ray Rice on Monday after a video surfaced showing him knocking his future wife out with a punch in February, and dragging her limp body our of a casino elevator. Ref. CNN

Former FBI Director Robert Mueller will conduct an independent investigation into the NFL's handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence incident, Commissioner Roger Goodell announced Wednesday night.

The investigation will be overseen by NFL owners John Mara of the New York Giants and Art Rooney II of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the final report will be made public. Ref. CNN

Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has won his appeal of his indefinite suspension by the NFL, the players union said today.

"The suspension has been vacated," Said George Atallah, assistant executive director of external affairs for the players' union.

The Ravens terminated Rice's contract in September, so he is currently a free agent. Ref. CNN

The NFL didn't know about an in-elevator video showing Ray Rice striking his then-fiancee until it was made public, but the league should have known it needed to dig deeper into the incident, former FBI Director Robert Mueller concluded in a report released Thursday.

"We concluded there was substantial information about the incident -- even without the in-elevator video -- indicating the need for a more thorough investigation," Mueller said in his report. "The NFL should have done more with the information it had, and should have taken additional steps to obtain all available information about the February 15 incident." Ref. CNN
