Ecuador president: Quake death toll rises to 233
President Rafael Correa tweeted on his official account that the death toll from the magnitude-7.8 earthquake has risen from 77 to 233. More than 500 people were injured by the earthquake that rocked central Ecuador Saturday night. Ref. USAToday.
The death toll is going up and now stands at around 350. There is so much rubble on the ground that it will take a long time before they search through it all to find more people. The sad thing about a lot of these countries is they do not have proper building codes so the destruction is magnified.
