Romanian 11-Year-Old Released From Hospital After Having Abortion in England
London, England (LifeNews.com) -- An 11-year-old girl from Romania, Florina Vranceanu, has been released from a British hospital after traveling to the UK for an abortion. Her case caused an international stir after she became pregnant following a sexual assault. Pro-life and church groups squared off with abortion advocates over whether the Romanian government should have allowed her to travel to the UK for the abortion. After government officials signed off on the idea, the British-based Marie Stopes abortion business made the arrangements for the abortion paid for by a local donor through a National Health Service facility, London's King's College Hospital. Mark Graver, of King's College, said: "It was a special case. We are glad we could offer support." Florina was allegedly raped by her 19-year-old uncle and DNA samples taken from the baby before the abortion apparently established his paternity.
Regardless of where a person stands on the issue of abortion it is tragic what this young girl has been through and will continue to go through because the press felt the need to publish her name worldwide. She endured rape and who knows what else by her uncle. Then she had to endure the emotional and physical trauma of the abortion. And all in the public eye. So she basically had to endure another emotional rape while the opposing sides bickered and fought over what was the "right" thing to do. They may have had good intentions but it looks like things have been terribly mishandled all around. Hopefully at some point she will be provided with counseling and privacy to be able to move forward with her life with as much normalcy as possible.
And I hope her uncle is rightfully punished and she is shielded from him. Too many times I have seen situations like this where the perpetrator is still a welcomed member of the family. The young victim is emotionally revictimized at every family gathering as other family members expect him/her to "get over it" and move on.
I think it was nice that they did this for this little girl. After being abused by her Uncle and raped by him it was the right decisions for her to get an abortion. She deserves the right to be a child and not be having a child at such a young age. I hope the government steps in and does something to keep her safe from her uncle.
