NYC School Handcuffed Kindergartener Over Temper Tantrum

What the heck? If this is true, it is absolutely unacceptable to do this to a child so young!
Temper tantrums are normal in kids when they do not get their own way. If the child was still doing this while in school that probably means he gets his way a lot when he throws them at home. I disagree with the use of handcuffs and would question why a school teacher or school official is doing with handcuffs in a elementary school. Last I knew these were not teaching aids. I hope if this is true the teacher or who ever placed cuffs on a small child are punished.
Yeah, this is normal behavior in kids to some degree. It really depends on how sever the temper tantrum was. But to cuff them. That is totally unacceptable behavior. I think I'd lose my mind if someone did that to one of my kids. I have to agree with KN, what the heck were they doing with cuffs? Whoever did that should be reprimanded and retrained.
In a five year old having a temper tantrum may also be in response to abuse or tragedy such as parents getting a divorce or in the hospital. Someone with skills could easily get the child to calm down, this is NOT for the police.
Aliza,
Yeah, and I'm not sure how much skill it requires to do this. I mean, you would think people at the school, it was a kindergarten, would have the skills necessary to take care of a five year old. Most adults should have the skills necessary to handle a five year old. Even if that means clearing the classroom and letting child calm down under supervision.
