A culture of people known as the Basques have played a large part in influencing the Idaho state. The Basques originally came from the northern Iberian Peninsula, which is now part of Spain, and their archaic language is not connected to any other European language at all. When the migrated to the United States, they brought with them their tradition of sheep herding. Today their cultures can be found in restaurants and museums.

Blackfoot, Idaho is considered to be the potato capitol of the world! A quick google search of "World Potato Expo" brings up numerous sites pointing this out. Blackfoot also happens to be the place I grew up.

The potato expo offers "Free 'Taters For Out-Of-Staters". It also contains the worlds largest baked potato. Here is a quick blerb from one of their websites:

QUOTE
Located in front of the World Potato Expo in Blackfoot Idaho, the World's Largest Potato is a lumber and chicken-wire spray foam covered structure, fairly lightweight, with it's potato eyes enlarged by curious fingers. Originally stopping for a nighttime photo opp, the lure of the potato expo was too much to resist.

Inside the potato expo, you can learn the secrets of the potato industry, see a potato signed by former veep Dan Quayle, see Marilyn Monroe dressed in a potato sack, and view the  World's Largest Potato Chip. And, every out of stater gets free taters.

Another blerb states:

QUOTE
Located in the old Oregon Short Line Railroad Depot you"ll discover the world of Idaho's Famous Potatoes®. The Idaho Potato Expo is a unique museum which appropriately showcases Idaho's Famous Potatoes®. The rich graphics showcasing the history of the potato will lead you through the revolution of the potato industry. From the original potato planted in Idaho, to the largest potato made by the Pringle's Company in Jackson, TN. You"ll be intrigued as you stroll through the Expo which was built in 1912. Once a bustling flurry of activity, the stone depot represents significant ties between the railroad and the potato industry. The Potato Expo provides information on potato history, the growing and harvesting process, nutrition, trivia and educational potato facts. Watch a short video presentation on how the potato industry has developed.

Kind of a fun place to drop in on next time you are passing through!
