No death penalty for man charged in parents' death
Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against a man charged in the shooting deaths of his parents. Peter Haynes, 24, will instead face a possible life sentence if convicted in the deaths of Dr. David and Lissa Haynes at their Sunset Cliffs home. Ref. Source 4w.
The official reason for not seeking the death penalty was not disclosed but one officer testified that when he found the father still alive he asked him why his son did it and his reply was "He's schizophrenic." So maybe the son was not in a good state of mind at the time.
