Had the Grell from the previous adventure actually managed to hit someone things may have turned out differently. So far the party has faced a few low level threats and the big threats that they have encountered were single creatures which in a way are easier to deal with than multiple low to mid level creatures because as we’ve seen, if the players roll well those CR2 and CR3 creatures can be taken down fairly quickly, especially if the creatures are at the bottom of the initiative order.

But yes, I do intend to up the difficulty a bit for this adventure [cue evil villain laughter]

I did not think he was upping the difficulty. The grell did get one solid hit on Roland right at the start, but after that the fighter's armor kept saving him. This ankheg thing just happened to grab one of our lower-HP characters, and decided to not only grab her, but use the acid right away. I almost would have preferred it use the acid on the rest of us, but it worked out. If we keep playing smart, I think we'll be okay.

Aeric, I have a rules question. Can I use cure wounds to heal myself? I'm asking because it says I can heal a creature I touch. Some spells specify and mention that it can be used on self. What is your interpretation of that?

PHB pg 202 "Some spells can target only a creature (Including you) that you touch." Parentheses are part of the direct quote. So yes, unless the Dungeon Master has a houserule saying otherwise, CW on self is legal.

Yes, you can use cure wounds to heal yourself. As far as the issue regarding herbal treatments, from what I can tell a Wisdom (Medicine) check is primarily used for first aid to stabilize someone who is dying or to diagnose an illness but it does not restore hit points.

From what I can tell from the description in the PHB on page 154 the herbalism kit allows the user to apply their proficiency bonus in identifying and applying herbs and is required in the creation of potions of healing but does not in and of itself restore any hit points through its use. The Wisdom (Medicine) skill is used to stabilize a dying character rather than restoring hit points as well.

A potion of healing is described as a magical red liquid which to me suggests that the rules for creating magical items applies to it. If anyone can point to a reference that says otherwise though I will take a closer look at it.
