Actually somewhat relieved at Zinna's words, the guardsman relaxes. "I completely agree, except for one point. YOU will sleep in the bed. I will sleep out here. Just allow me to get a blanket for myself." He helps Zinna back to her feet and leads her into the room. He retrieves a spare blanket and a bedroll he has packed, then bids the bard a warm, "Good night." He creates a quick shakedown by the door and falls asleep surprisingly quickly.

The Maker says...

Epilogue

The loss of life at the hands of the strange creature was devastating to the small village of Clear Creek, but the people are a resilient and stubborn lot and life must go on. Over the course of the week following the heroes return memorial services are held for each of the victims and they are ultimately interred at a nearby graveyard located in a fenced off area behind the church.

The bodies of the elves that were brought back were preserved until Tywin returned a few days later after which they were loaded back onto the wagon and sent to the Lighthair Tribe at Durmista and handed over to the elves there to conduct any appropriate funeral rites. Coins and items taken from the bodies of the goblins are given to the party as loot and totals a mere 11gp and a small stone of 1 lapis lazuli worth 10 gp.

Tywin brought back some information from the elves regarding the creature, which the elves refer to as a Grell (At least that is the closest translation into common). It is seen as an unnatural abomination. The elves are uncertain of its origin but in their previous encounters with similar creatures they note that they are often found in areas which what they refer to as the “Veil between Worlds” is thin; suggesting that the Grell may have its origins in another plane of existence.

Tywin also returns with information regarding the strange coin found by the party on the goblins. The Elves of Durmista informed Tywin that deep in the Scolandi Wilds a city of elves called Allranbel, has emerged and has risen greatly through conquest and annexation of its neighbors. The capital of this new ‘kingdom’ is more than a hundred miles away, however, and the elves of Durmista were surprised to hear about goblins being in possession of these coins this far out but then again the goblin and orc tribes in the Wilds engage in a great deal raiding not only with other races but also against each other. It is possible that a goblin or orc tribe raided a village that was controlled by the elves and through subsequent raids the coins made their way east. It is also possible that various elf tribes have traded with the city of Allranbel and were subsequently raided by goblins.

Tywin voices some concern over the rise of this Allranbel, but notes that its borders are still a great distance from Clear Creek and poses no immediate threat. What may represent a more imminent threat, however, is the fact that the elves of the Lighthair Tribe told him that a war is brewing between a savage orc/goblinoid tribe known as the “Bloody Axe Tribe” and elves of the Illiosani river. These two tribes operate in territory that is fairly close to Clear Creek (Well within ten to twenty miles). This conflict could potentially spill over into Clear Creeks area of control.

Though saddened by the loss of life at the hands (Tentacles?) of the Grell, Tywin being Tywin shows little emotional reaction. He does, however approve of how the party handled the mission and upon hearing the title that the villagers have come to adopt for the party he announces that the Defenders of Clear Creek are fully deputized and henceforth may act in his stead and under his authority in his absence within the confines of the Clear Creek area which is an area that extends approximately five miles out from Clear Creek in each direction and includes most of the farms and logging camps surrounding the village. With this comes a salary of 1gp per day though he appoints Corren as his “Sub Reeve” or “Under Sheriff” and bestows a wage of 1.5gp per day for him. The funding is actually coming from the local Baron who appointed Tywin as Reeve, his name is Baron Niemann and he maintains his manor in the city of Vollandar.

Geoffrey is made a Child of the Church and is sent to Vollandar where he will likely be assigned to one of the farms that is owned and operated by the Imperial Church scattered throughout the Empire.

Life eventually begins to return to normal in Clear Creek. The winter comes and it is a fairly harsh one with plenty of snowstorms and ice that freezes the ground. While the surrounding farms enter into hibernation the loggers continue to drive further into the forest though they are often slowed significantly by the weather.

Tywin occasionally sends the party out to various outlying farms to check in on them, or the party is asked to break up a minor brawl or two at the tavern, but for the most part things are calm.

Out of Character: : As noted above everyone will be receiving a salary as deputies for Tywin Gant. I would like everyone to declare what their living expenses are like (Wretched, squalid, poor, modest, comfortable, wealthy or aristocratic).

I know the treasure wasn’t very extensive for this adventure; I hope that is not an issue but I didn’t imagine a Grell having much in terms of a treasure horde, just what would be found on its victims. I assumed that the party wouldn’t loot the bodies of the villagers or the elves; if you do take what is found on the elves you can add another 10gp and 7sp and of course there would be various weapons (Daggers, swords, etc) as well as Aves equipment:

Light Crossbow
2 Daggers
Staff
Leather Armour
Hunting Trap
Wolf Paw on the belt(Trophy)
Traveler Cloths
Explorer's Pack
Small Tent
Flute
Component Pouch

Post any ideas you have for what kind of adventure you are looking for in the support thread. I appreciate everyone’s input as I work on the next adventure.

Mradoric will be living a poor lifestyle. He will be gathering herbs in the forest to be able to make potions of healing for the party and for the lumber men who get injured. He will build a small shack at the edge of twon towards the forest that he can dry and store herbs in as well as sleep in. He will spend a couple hours daily in keeping up his skills so that he will be ready when ever the party is needed.

The Scout of the Deep Wilds says...

Even with the new salary, Carrick returns to his hunting and trapping lifestyle (Modest), selling his meats and pelts. This becomes lucrative for the dwarf but an unfortunate necessity due in part to the loss of both skilled trappers, Coridan and Aves, but also the winter brings a higher demand in his furs.
Carrick also uses this down time, and new "Position" within the town's oversight, to get both the Dinsmore and Morris farms operating again. Becoming vacant due to the deaths of the previous owners and with no heirs to the land, the dwarf hopes by getting the Reeve to allow him to invest in fixing them up and putting some of the more capable and willing villagers to work them, this will help both the community and some individuals who may not otherwise have a means of income. (It should be noted that Carrick does not wish to benefit from financially from the restored farms, just trying to help out his fellow Clear Creek residents as much as possible in any way he can.)

Carrick also extends an invitation to Mradoric to consider either moving in with him, as Carrick may not have the biggest or nicest house but it could definitely house both of them comfortably, especially if they pool their salaries. Carrick wil respect what ever the young monk chooses, but makes it clear that "His hearth is always warm and open to him", as it is to all of his fellow companions.

All in all, Carrick is very happy that his little "Paradise" is beginning to flourish once more. His title of defender of Clear Creek fills him with pride and he soon starts to take more interest in the growing rumors of the possible threat that the problems between the orc and elven tribes could pose on his town. He sets out to seek the council of his fellow "Defenders" and their standing on the issue.

Mradoric thanks Carrick for his offer but politely declines. "I am one that likes to be by myself at times and wish to not be a bother to others at times due to my training and meditations. IF things change I will consider you offer again."

The Maker says...

The Drunken Logger Tavern
12th day of Mirtul--Evening
233rd year of the Imperial Calendar

The villagers of Clear Creek have come to recognize that the table near the hearth positioned toward the back of the Drunken Logger has become something of an unofficial meeting place for the Defenders of Clear Creek. The table is usually the last to be occupied and certainly the first to be vacated when a member of the party enters the tavern.

It is here that Tywin often goes to seek out the party when he has task for them as gathering at the Logger for a quick round of drinks and fellowship has become something of a daily ritual for the Defenders; even if their meetings are sometimes brief on account of other obligations and sometimes Carrick is unable to attend when his hunting takes him any significant distance from the village.

Zinna will often perform at the end of these meetings and is able to bring in a little more coin (Generally enough to maintain a modest lifestyle on top of what she makes in salary) but also continues to suffer the advances of a drunken patron or two. Renner, in particular, though he has refrained from being too overt, remains a bit of a nuisance at times and Quell has asked him to leave on more than one occasion, usually without incident but sometimes with the help of Tywin or the party as a whole.

On this particular evening the party happens to be together at the Logger and enjoying a round at their reserved table when Tywin enters the tavern with an armored fellow by his side (This is Leo, Daishain may describe him to us). Tywin leads the man to your table and he does not look happy. A scowl lines Tywins already wrinkled and weather beaten face as his boots click loudly on the wood flooring. He comes to a stop at the table and casts an annoyed glance at the party before producing a parchment from the pocket of his cloak. Tywin emphasizes the parchment with a shake of his hand, waving the parchment about as he addresses the party.

“So the Imperial Church in her infinite wisdom has declared some sort of Manifest Destiny as it relates to the Scolandi Wilds. They’ve sent us Father Marcellus and Sir Leo here” he nods toward the man standing next to him “to help spread the Light of the Maker to the Scolandi savages and to eliminate the stain of the Destroyer from the land.”

Tywins voice drips with sarcasm and barely restrained contempt, something that may perhaps surprise some of the members of the party as Tywin has always displayed a significant amount of devotion to the Maker though perhaps this devotion has not always been extended to the Maker’s Church. One perhaps has the sense that Tywin’s frustration lies not so much in the Church, but may be related more to what the Church has apparently asked of him.

Father Marcellus will need an escort to Dermista where he intends to establish a mission there in the hopes of converting the elves.” Again, Tywin’s tone betrays his true feelings, in this case a tone of skepticism as though it will be a waste of time and energy.

“Leo here is Father’s escort provided by the Church but Baron Niemann has ordered me to provide an escort as well, preferably someone with some knowledge of the Wilds.” Twyin returns the parchment to his cloak “So I’m sending you. Make sure Father gets to his destination and help him get established…”

Tywin gives Leo a bit of a sidelong glance before continuing “give father whatever support you can, but don’t loiter for too long and if the natives grow too restless get him back here safely. I’ll leave you and Sir Leo here to hash out the details of your journey. Father Marcellus is staying at the Church, you may collect him whenever you are ready. No need to rush though, make sure you are prepared before you go too deep in the Wilds… trust me on that.”

Tywin turns to leave but turns back after taking a few steps “I’m sure the Church wouldn’t appreciate me saying this” again he glances at Leo “... But, remember that your first duty is to the people of Clear Creek and in ensuring their safety” with that he turns and exits.

Out of Character: : Feel free to include your own epilogue from the previous adventure in your post. For Leo this might include some background information. This is a fairly open setting and I welcome player contributions to it (Including locations, NPC’s, political figures, etc) so long as they are reasonable and do not include any world shattering events or major changes to the setting without prior approval. So for Leo you are free to develop some of these “Unusual aspects of the faith, customs, sayings, rituals, etc.” so long as they fit the general theme.

Asendar is a largely undeveloped concept at this point but it is somewhat akin to the Roman Empire, mostly in terms of the fact that it is a fairly large Empire with several Imperial Provinces. Players may have noticed that some names, particularly those in the player's current region, are Irish/Scottish in origin while NPC’s from the heart of the Empire tend to have Roman names. Part of the reasoning behind this is to show that the Empire is made up of various cultures, therefore different name origins/backgrounds but this does not necessarily relate to real world cultures. In other words the fact that certain NPC’s have Irish names does not mean that they have a culture similar to medieval Ireland (Unless there are elements of that culture the player would like to include). Hope that all makes sense. I guess some of it is that I don’t want players to think of the Asendar Army and picture a Roman Legion, because that is not necessarily the case here.

The person introduced to the Defenders as Sir Leo is a big man. Human from the looks of him, with a tanned face framed by a mass of shaggy red hair and a beard to match. He bears no weapons at the moment aside from a simple belt knife, but is wearing a suit of well polished heavy chain mail, over it is worn a dark blue tabard emblazoned with the symbol of the crusader army. He is smiling when he enters the room, though it falters when Tywin lets his irritation show. It returns in full force as he steps forward to greet the Defenders. He'll remain standing until invited to sit.

"Greetings one and all, and may the Maker's light grace your path. The people here speak highly of you. I've heard little but tales of your exploits since arriving here. I understand that the father's mission here may not be the most welcome news you've heard lately, but I do hope we can work together to ensure matters go at least relatively smoothly."
