The Maker says...

Carrick gets one last good hit with his axe before he is swarmed by orcs and goblins and the world goes black… To Zinna if feels as though the elves have been dragging her for miles, though the reality that they haven't gone that far before they drop her face down onto the forest floor. She can hear the soft footsteps on the grass and then she is gently turned onto her back. A familiar face comes into her field of vision; Adsila looks down at her with an expression that is difficult to discern. Is she angry, satisfied, or concerned?

"Zinnathyra of Clear Creek" she says as a small smile begins to play across her face and she glances up at her companions "The ancestors will be pleased indeed. Be of good cheer"

Adsila looks up again as someone else approaches and she gives a curt nod "Fear not, your friends will not meet their end this day. You are indeed great warriors. My scouts tell me that your wizard friend made it back to Durmista and is even now returning to the battle with a small contingent of Lighthair archers, who are no doubt emboldened by the valiant stand that your fellows made. In the meantime, you should sleep… you have some long days ahead of you."

Zinna feels something cool and slightly wet on her neck and soon finds it difficult and eventually impossible to keep her eyes open.

------------

Malek arrives back at the scene of the battle with a contingent of four archers (There were only eight total to defend the village), but he finds that the orc warband puts up only a brief fight before they withdraw under the realization that their numbers have been significantly reduced. Malek finds the party members scattered on the forest floor bleeding. The elves assist him in providing first aid as they apply simple poultices to the wounds (Leo, Mradoric, Carrick, and Corren gain 1d4hp… this is non-magical healing).

Corren realizes he has been dreaming. Of Clear Creek. Of cooking in a kitchen. Of sharing a meal, and even a quick kiss, with Zinna. The only reason he realizes he has been dreaming is the dreams begin to fade, and he senses painful spots all over his body. He also feels fear as he regains his senses. As his vision finally returns he sees Malek, and a small group of elves from Durmista tending to him himself and a few others. He sees Carrick, Mradoric, Leo… what little blood he has runs cold. "Where… " he croaks, coughs, clears his throat then tries again. "Where is Zinna?"

The wise says...

After the orcs and goblins are dispatched malek looks around at the grim site before him all of his new compatriots have fallen. He begins to check for signs of life speaking elvish he pleads for the elf's from the village to check the bodies as well. He is stunned to find they are all still alive they begin to start treating and binding wounds. Malek then realizes Zinna isn't here. He wonders if she got away or did something else happen to her, again asking the elf's if they can find any tracks leading away. "Coren are you okay? I wouldn't try to move too much. I can't find Zinna did you see what happened to her?"

Mradoric continues to dream of life and how he was hoping to find more about the mysteries of life as he sleeps. He remembers a fight but can not recall anything about it right now.

Leo takes a ragged breath as he wakes to the world once more, much to his surprise. He can taste small amounts of fresh blood in his mouth whenever he breathes, something must be wrong with his lungs.

Hearing that Malek and several elves are present, he lies still for some time, collecting his strength. Upon sitting up, he is relieved to see that the bodies do not include the men and women of Clear Creek. But not all of them were seen among the living either. "Where's Zinna? She was right behind me in the fight. Did the orcs take her? We must… " A fit of coughing spasms takes the paladin as he tries to stand, and he slumps down in defeat, realizing he isn't going anywhere right now, even had Balius survived. Leo was going to miss him greatly, he'd had a hand in raising and training that horse from a 6 month old foal as a part of his own training.

The Maker says...

The Lighthair elves escort the surviving party members back to Durmista; they find that the only thing that remains that would suggest there was any form of settlement are the mud formed huts that were used to cater to travelers and merchants. The archers tell the party that everyone has successfully fled and that the party is free to use the huts to recuperate or they will escort the party on to meet with the council…

Zinna

Is it a dream… or is it real? Zinna is uncertain…

She finds herself standing beneath the canopy of a massive oak tree whose leaves glitter gold and silver scattering the darkness of night that surrounds her. Looking closer she can see that the source of the lights on the leaves are actually incredibly small, finely formed, elven script that glow silver and gold. Aside from the tree there is only a dense fog that shifts just outside of the diameter of the tree's canopy. Her sight is unable to penetrate the deep fog but occasionally she could swear that she sees movement just beyond the fog wall.

Zinna realizes that her armor and clothing has been replaced with a simple flowing gown made of silk that is so fine that it is almost transparent. The air is still and comfortable. Her eye catches movement again, and this time the heavy fog swirls and parts for a moment to her right and a figure emerges. An elven woman approaches, hair made of silver strands that flow down around her waist, she wears a gown similar to yours only with gold and silver strands that seem to shift and flow throughout the garment.

It is often difficult to ascertain the age of an elf by appearance alone, for they do not show age as humans do, but Zinna has the distinct impression that this woman is old, even in elven terms and indeed as she gets closer Zinna can see traces of crows feet at the edges of her eyes. As the woman nears the fog shifts again and reforms the wall behind her, she looks over Zinna, inspecting her and then a smile plays across her face.

"Zinnathra… at least that is what they tell me your name is? Am I pronouncing it correctly?

Zinna shakes her head in confusion. She doesn't know how she got here or if this is even real. Glancing around her she is awestruck at the beauty of the oak tree. Her eyes widen as she notices that Elven script on the leaves is what is illuminating the area. She turns and studies her environment. Nothing can be seen beyond the reach of the canopy of the tree but a wall of fog. She looks down and notices she is wearing a thin silk gown. The gown is beautiful and elegant. Zinna reaches for her weapon and her lute but they are not there. Her eyes narrow in grave concern. She has no armor or weapon to defend herself with. Wondering what happens next she continues to scan the area.

Seeing apparent movement beyond the wall she stops and stares. Nothing more is to be seen for a moment. Suddenly an Elven woman walks through the fog towards her. Studying the woman she notices her elegant beauty but also her apparent great age. If an elf is showing signs of aging how ancient must she be? She must be one of the Ancestors the other elves were speaking of. Hearing the woman speak she smiles and bows low before her. As she bows her mind is racing. She knew fighting wasn't an option or escape. Zinna knew she needed to find out why she was here and hopefully talk her way out of this precarious situation. " That is correct. Your pronunciation is accurate. I am Zinnathyra. It is truly an honor to meet you and see beauty and elegance like this. " She gestures to the tree above them. " Thank you for rescuing me from the battle. We were trying to aid the Elven people and rid the forest of the orcish threat. What have I done to be given an honor such as this? Why have I been brought here my lady? "
