NYPD arrest suspect in fatal shooting of imam, friend over the weekend

Authorities say they arrested and charged a 35-year-old man with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting of Imam Maulama Alauddin Akonjee and friend Thara Uddin, as they were leaving the Al-Furqan Jame Masjid mosque in Queens on Saturday. Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a news conference that police would help protect the city's Muslim residents who might be on edge because of the nation's ongoing debate about religious prejudice in the wake of Islamic terror.
