Does A Dungeon Master's Gender Matter?

Do you feel the gender of a Dungeon Master matters in how the game will be played? For example will a lady Dungeon Master tend to be a little softer on the party than a gent?

In my opinion it won't really matter. I've never Dungeon Master'd myself but I have had a females Dungeon Master before. She was pretty tough. If you died you died. No second chances. A woman could very well be tougher just to not be seen as too soft or a pushover.

I don't want to sound like I'm into any gender issues or anything like that but I have to ask… Did your female Dungeon Master already have mannish qualities?

In my opinion the gender of the Dungeon Master has nothing to do with the style of play. If I were a Dungeon Master I would be strict and hard, nothing would come easy and I would enjoy giving the players challenges in everything even to sleep. *evil laugh echoes*.

I have played with both male and female Dungeon Masters. I have seen some that are good and bad. I do not think it makes a difference if the Dungeon Master is a male or a female as long as they know what they are doing and where the characters are going.

In answer to your question Wizard. The one female Dungeon Master I have had wasn't mannish. She was in law enforcement but she ran a good game. There was no noticeable difference between her and the male Dungeon Master's as to how the game was ran. As others have mentioned all that matters is how good they are at running the game.

In my opinion the gender does not matter. A Dungeon Master can be good or bad and it has nothing to do with their sex. I seem to find that people who have played for a bit before they Dungeon Master usually are better than those who just become Dungeon Master and then keep the job. Often because they want the control.

The group I am currently with are on the third Dungeon Master in the last two years. When it is my time to Dungeon Master I will run the group through my "World" and hopefully it will be enjoyable to all.
