I watched this movie last night and once again, I was impressed with Matthew Mc Conaughey's acting. He is one of the few actors I know that started making movies with little depth and caught in romantic comedies roles to then make an astronomical jump to more serious roles where not only made him win an Academy Award, but continuing making movies worth an Oscar.
Free State of Jones is a movie set during the Civil War in the US. If you are into historical movies you will enjoy this film. It tells the story of a rebellious and courageous farmer, Newt Knight, and a group of armed men and women trying to rebel against the Confederacy. They were local farmers being tired of being robbed and being taken advantage of by the Confederates and decided to make it stop. There were also slaves in their midst. I believe the movie portraits what it seems to be quite accurately the harshness of war in one of the darkest times in US history.
