Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos wins Nobel Peace Prize
Santos won for his efforts to "Bring the country's more than 50-year-long civil war to an end, a war that has cost the lives of at least 220 000 Colombians and displaced close to six million people." An accord between Colombia and FARC rebels recently broke down. Alfred Nobel founded the prize as part of his last will and testament in 1895. Nobel specified that prize should go each year to "The person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses." Ref. USAToday.
Its strange how they award these peace prizes. Fr instance President Santos may of had a lot of dealings with the FARC to get them to the table for peace but at the same time the country is voting against it so nothing has been accomplished, yet.
