Fourteen-year-old Homer Macauley is determined to be the best and fastest bicycle telegraph messenger anyone has ever seen. His older brother has gone to war, leaving Homer to look after his widowed mother, his older sister and his 4-year-old brother, Ulysses.

A nice drama about the discovery [of] how unpleasant the world can be as a young boy goes from child hood to adulthood in a short period. While the story was nice there wasn't much shock value to it as you are prompted about how the movie will end from the start.

There was a scene where the boy was asked to mail a letter for a girl that was probably being abused or playing the role of a prostitute. Was there any followup on that part of the film? It seemed to be left out unless I missed it.
