They've declared a state of emergency since one person died. It may seem excessive but I guess its to put things in place and restrict the spread.
21 people aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship off the coast of California have tested positive for coronavirus. Vice President Mike Pence said Friday that the ship will dock this weekend in a “noncommercial port,” and that all passengers and crew will be tested for the coronavirus. Ref. USAToday.
More than half of California's population could contract coronavirus in the next eight weeks, Gov. Gavin Newsom projects. In a letter, California Gov. Gavin Newsom asked President Donald Trump to station the USNS Mercy Hospital Ship in Los Angeles immediately and keep it there until September to ease strains on hospitals. "We project that roughly 56 percent of our population — 25.5 million people — will be infected with the virus over an eight week period," he wrote. Ref. USAToday.
California Gov. Newsom weighs easing virus order. California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday plans to outline what it would take to ease his March stay-at-home order, which aimed to slow the spread of COVID-19. Newsom is considering slowly reopening businesses in a state divided between rural areas with small numbers of coronavirus cases and urban areas struggling with still-rising death tolls. The state has had more than 45,000 cases and nearly 1,800 deaths, more than half of them in Los Angeles County, according to Johns Hopkins University data. Ref. USAToday.
No matter how much you lock down you eventually have to open up and that can just repeat everything again. I like the model of Sweden where their lock down was very minimal and everything continued as normal and there has been no outbreak there.
