I do not have a special way of rolling dice on table top. I just pick the die I wish shake it the hand a bit and toss it onto the table hoping for a good roll. Here in these games I do all my character rolling on the imbedded dice. As a Dungeon Master I roll using a dice roller on my cell phone. Makes it all random and interesting.
Shake it up a bit in a closed hand and then rotate it out with a twist of the wrist. Gives a good spin to it without much in the way of lateral momentum. I spend notably less time hunting for escapee dice because of it.
Well, I spend less time hunting for dice that I rolled. I keep dropping dice that I was fidgeting with on other people's turns.
No special way for me to roll. Just toss them enough to get a random result and to stay on the table. One thing I have noticed people doing is cheating to me. They will have the dice set for 6's and then they try to drop them straight down so they won't roll. It's annoying when a Dungeon Master lets them get by with that.

Oh aye, bugs the heck out of me too.
Once caught a player cheating on the 4d6 rolls for initial stats. He'd use his little finger to hold one of them with the d6 side up, and splay his hand out on the table so all but that one would go bouncing and rolling around. A six in every roll doesn't guarantee great stats, but it sure as heck bumps the bell curve up.
As for dice towers, cups and the like, nah. Its something else to mess with on an already crowding table, and you can usually tell when someone's doing something odd.
