"green" meaning people who did not destroy their natural environment around them but left the natural balance alone. In this case the race created and used all these crystals to power and do things. As a result they upset the natural balance to the point where the planet exploded.

their computer that should have protected them hid the truth and Superman's dad discovered it but none would believe him. If they had known sooner they had the technology that they likely could have saved the planet or at least relocated.
