Trump will have broad power as president to deport immigrants and ban refugees
Legal experts say a president has a free hand in changing many of the nation's immigration programs, but Trump will need help from Congress to build his wall along the Mexican border. Ref. USAToday.
Trump orders moves on border wall and 'sanctuary cities' and is considering a refugee ban
President Trump directed federal workers Wednesday to start building a border wall and begin punishing so-called sanctuary cities and is considering dramatically limiting the flow of people from other countries, including a ban on Syrian refugees, in a flurry of steps that could fundamentally reshape how the U.S. Deals with immigration, security and the war on terrorism. Okay, I understand these people are here illegally. I understand they are breaking our law… the definition of being here illegally. But they came here for the same reason my grandparents came from Italy and Greece over 100 years ago. They came here to live a better life and make a better life for their children. Those who commit real crimes we need to deport. Those who are here to become American and better themselves we should let stay.
And how do you isolate those who are here for good and no good if they already committed a crime getting here?

You find the ones who have committed a felony and get rid of them no questions asked. Then you find the ones who have committed misdemeanors and go over them one by one. For those whose only "Crime" is seeking a better life in our country, we should let them stay. I think those people make us stronger and their children most certainly will. Also, they are here, they are contributing to the country, they should stay.
That said, we also need to gain control of our borders. A country without borders is not a country at all. Once we gain control of our borders we won't have this problem any more as there won't be hundreds of thousands or millions of illegals gaining entry into our country. Of course, that is easier said than done.
Some cities have already said they aren't going to follow Trump's wishes and rather do without the federal funding he plans to cut for safe havens.

Bountybeauty,
I've seen that but they are treading on treacherous territory when they do that. The laws of the Federal Government take precedent, if they didn't we could never have integrated schools in the 50s. Ike used the Army to do that. If these cities refuse to follow US laws they could be subject to some kind of Federal takeover. I'm also betting the Supreme Court will make them follow the law or jail them if they don't.
