Target says up to 40 million credit and debit card accounts may have been affected by a data breach that occurred between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15. In a statement, the retailer said it "Is working closely with law enforcement and financial institutions, and has identified and resolved the issue." The chain said Thursday that the accounts may have been impacted between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15. Ref. USAToday

In a press release, Target says as part of the ongoing investigation, it was determined that "The stolen information includes names, mailing addresses, phone numbers or email addresses for up to 70 million individuals." Ref. USAToday

The number of people affected by the breach of Target is amazing and keeps rising. I can't imagine anyone trusting Target for online info again and more so in general.

Attorney General Eric Holder confirmed Wednesday that federal authorities were investigating the data breach involving retail giant Target. "The Department of Justice takes seriously reports of any data breach, particularly those involving personally identifiable or financial information, and looks into allegations that are brought to its attention,'' Holder told the Senate Judiciary Committee.
