2 1/4 | cup | flour, all-purpose | |
1/2 | teaspoon | salt | |
2 | teaspoon | baking powder | |
3/4 | cup | butter, or margarine,softened | |
1 | cup | sugar | |
2 | each | eggs | |
2 | tablespoon | milk | |
1 | teaspoon | vanilla extract | |
1 | cup | nuts, chopped | |
1 | cup | pitted dates, fine cut | |
1/3 | cup | maraschino cherries, chopped | |
2 2/3 | cup | corn flakes, crushed | |
15 | each | maraschino cherries, quartered | |
Directions: | |||
Stir together flour, salt and baking powder;set aside. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs;beat well. Stir in milk and vanilla extract. Add flour mixture;thoroughly combine. Stir in nuts, dates and 1/3 cup chopped cherries. Portion dough using a level measuring tablespoon. Shape into balls. Roll in crushed corn flakes. Place about 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Top each cookie with a cherry quarter. Bake in a 375 degree oven about 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove immediately from baking sheets and cool on wire racks. A www.recipeland.com visitor said: I am now 63 years of age. I first had this cookies when I was 12 years old. A friend of mine invited me to her house and her mother was baking them and gave us one. Not until I was 23 years old did I find the recipe. They were called cherry winks at that time. Now they are called cherry cookies. I can't waite until I bake them and gift wrap them for Xmas to hand them out to my family and friends. Thank you so much for the receipe.
