S Korea marks anniversary of war

June 25Th was The 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. 60 years ago, South Korea faced demolition due to a surprise attack by the North.

Back then, South Korea was militarily inferior to the North, and was unprepared against such an attack. It was evident that South Korea was facing a national emergency that threatened the very existence of the nation. At that moment 16 nations from you.N. - including the United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada - offered help with their forces, equipments, supplies, and medical personnel.

Therefore we survived the crisis, recovered our territory, and ended 3 years and 2 months of civil war by concluding a ceasefire.
Many of the deceased U.N. Forces weren't even aware of the existence of Korea when they entered the country. We cannot Thank them enough for their sacrifices.

With additional help from countries worldwide, we were able to develop into the nation that we are now. We owe you our country and we'd like to thank you all again as we face the 60th anniversary of the Korean War.

Even now, South Korea cannot lower its guard against the North's provocative actions. Last March, the North torpedoed our vessel, the Cheonan, and killed 46 of our men but North Korea is denying their actions and threatening the South with war. We, the people of South Korea, are redoubling our efforts to deter North Korea's bellicose provocations.

In addition, we would like to return the favor of other nations as South Korea continues to act as a responsible nation. We pray that the friendship established between South Korea and countries that entered the Korean War will last forever

I think many countries are feeling the tension in the air around North Korea. I do not thik it would take much to cause hostilities to be brought out right now. Lets hope that talks prevail before gun fire prevails.
