FRESNO, California - Police are trying to determine how a 2-year-old Fresno boy got ahold of a gun with which he accidentally shot and killed his 6-year-old sister. Sgt. Stephen Viveros tells the Fresno Bee the victim was playing with two other siblings in a bedroom in the family's home on Sunday when the toddler walked into the room with a loaded semi-automatic handgun. California Sister -yr Killed Shot Accidentally Boy -yr

What a tragic accident for this family. I was very careful to make sure my kids had no access to my handguns when they were little and I also made sure they knew from a real young age that guns were dangerous and never to be pointed at another. When they are were old enough 8-10 I would take them out to a range and let them fire a gun. I would use melons and frozen gallons of ice to show them what a bullet can do to someone.

I think that proper gun safety education is very important and this tragic accident proves just that.
