Onthar halts the slow advance of his men a little out of sight of where Cyanwrath and others are camped out. They get mounted on the steeds they'd been leading, and prepare for a charge.
Fay directs the ballistas in firing at the southern group, while Cahleth and Lia take aim at distant targets to the northwest.
Neither of the massive bolts get a direct hit, but one gouges a brick wall, spraying nearby enemies with shrapnel, wounding many. Lia and Cahleth meanwhile are each able to down a target. Cries go up as people in both areas dive for cover.
This does seem to catch the attention of Cyanwrath and those with him towards the west, though they don't seem about to move anywhere.
Shortly afterwards, Onthar and the others begins their charge. They easily trample over and cut down those first to respond to the threat, and are then galloping at full tilt across the marketplace in a tight wedge. Multiple flashes of light can be seen as spells are cast to bolster and protect.
Through his spyglass, Poljen has a decent view of the impending collision. Cyanwrath and his personal guard gather together to meet the charge with polearms leveled. The Commander seems quite eager to fight. Behind them, a somewhat stout human woman pulls out a scroll and begins reading from it. In response to the spell cast, the ground of the marketplace splits open as stone rises from the earth, rapidly forming into a thick wall separating the two groups. A horn is blown, and the enemy group to the Northwest leave cover to rush back towards the command center.
Stymied in his attempt to attack the commanders, Onthar apparently makes the decision to retreat before reinforcements arrive, as he and his men wheel about and head back the way they came. Soon enough, your allies are heading for the cavern exit, if a little sooner than planned. A large group of enemy cavalry is in pursuit, and their route will take them through one of the kill boxes in a few minutes.
Meanwhile, Cyanwrath appears to be shouting angrily at the woman who cast the spell, who seems not at all intimidated by the half dragon towering over her. Eventually he turns and stalks off after throwing his spear at the newly formed stone wall, where it embeds itself.
The mage turns and says something, which seem to have been an order, as from somewhere behind one of the buildings comes a firework like the one encountered before the siege. It shoots high into the sky where it detonates in a cloud of blue smoke.
Less than a minute later, a large winged silhouette rises into the sky from the hills to the northeast of the town, and begins flying in your direction.
Poljen looks through his spyglass and sees the winged shape. He turns and shouts, "Reload those ballista! Now! Archers to the ready! You know your target area!" He readies is own bow, assuming the enemy will be in the kill box before the flying creature summoned by the firework arrives.
Targul also readies his bow to attack the enemies as they ride through the kill zone. He only gives the winged creature a glancing thought as the more immediate threat is the one on the ground facing Onthar.
Fay hears the son of Nels and looks where he indicates, "Ready the ballista" he commands. "Target the winged beast." With that he helps aim the ballista he is at. Fay sees that the archers are reacting to Poljen's commands so he doesn't worry about them for now.
Out of Character: I assume the same rules apply, two shots and one of them with disadvantage. Fay will continue on the ballista until the flying creature comes within light crossbow range. How many rounds will that be?
Lia shakes her head upon seeing what appears to be a dragon approaching. She knows that the civilian archers will be running for their life soon. Knowing that the ballista will be the first target of the flying monstrosity she moves closer to Fay to aid in any way possible. Drawing aim on two of the enemy forces entering the killzone she looses two arrows.
Out of Character: : Don't forget that it is disadvantage at this range for bows everyone. I know everyone is busy this weekend and it is hard to post much to add a second roll if needed.

Nyzahr sits amongst the refugees inside the cavern, a jaunty tune dancing out of her Pipes.
She waits patiently for the dark elf to return from her exploring, but she's starting to consider doing a bit of an advanced scouting as well.
Out of Character: : toying with the idea of going inside the city using Invisibility and maybe detect eventual ambushes for Sir Onthar's men, but she will wait for further developments inside the caves for now, since no-one has reached out to communicate any clear and concerted course of action with her.
The next few minutes pass by with growing tension. The large figure in the distance gets closer, resolving into the form of a blue dragon.
On the ground, as planned, Onthar's group is approaching the kill site, enemies on their tail. As your allies clear the area, calls to fire can be heard, and both bows and siege weapons unleash their missiles in near concert. Like a dark cloud, the projectiles move en masse from the fort, to rain down upon Onthar's pursuers in a deadly wave. More volleys are called for, with the ballistas cranked back in time to add to the fourth and last.
When it stops, there is nothing left standing in the kill box. It is tough to gauge exact numbers, but it looks like over fifty are lying in heaps out there, along with the animals they had been riding.
Sir Onthar and those with him ride on. A few minutes later, when it becomes clear they won't make it to the cavern before the dragon arrives, they duck into a large barn, probably in hopes of avoiding being caught out in the open. The enemy apparently still has eyes on them however, as a little later, the illusion of a large red sphere appears in the air above the building in question. The dragon alters its flight path in response. It looks like it is going to land by the barn now.
