Poljen rolls to his feet, sword and shield ready, sure he is about to face his final foe. The last Snow Leopard will join his kin in the afterlife, he thinks as the blue dragon stirs, then slumps down, the light in its eyes fading. Poljen blinks, then hears the militia of Greenest cheering, and he raises his arms and joins in. "Hyah! This is a great victory for all! For the Silver Blaze! For the people of Greenest! And it will be a bitter defeat for those outside!" He suddenly gets a gleam in his eyes.

He strides towards the gate. "Open the gate! So they may see their fallen idol! Open it!"

Out of Character: : Daisahin, that was an awesome scene! Thank you so much! Oh, and Poljen will keep his eyes open for Targul's sword… hopefully still stuck in Lennithon's flank. But I like the idea of showing the army outside the dead dragon, and maybe getting Targul in quick....

Fay sees the death spasm and knows the drake is no more. He looks at the big barbarian and says, "Thy attack from above was the stuff of legend big man. But 'twas my strikes at his neck that killed the beast." He has a twinkle in his eyes and a smile on his lips as he says the last to Poljen. "Now mayhaps we should help extricate Cahleth and then see about our brother without these walls. I believe he hast need of our help as well. What say we cut the head off this fearsome beast and show it to our attackers. Mightn't that take the heart out of them? And we could do this without inviting them in through yon gate."

Lia raises her bow in exultation. She cheers with the rest. " Thank you Lady Sune for helping to bring us victory. " She walks over quickly and begins checking on Cahleth. Noticing he can't move his legs she frowns worriedly. " Cahleth, I was so worried when you fell with that dragon on you… " Hearing Poljen speaking about opening the gates she stands up.

" Brave Poljen, you slew a mighty foe indeed here. What a victory this is. Let us not chance throwing that away by opening the gates. We can sever the drake's head and display it above the gates just as well. The enemy will get the message from that. They worshiped this dragon. There is a good chance that opening the gate and showing his corpse will madden them and the gates will be breached. "

Poljen calls up to any of the militia on the walls by the gate. "Ho! What does the enemy do now? They must be worried they have not seen their champion rise again, and no doubt they heard our cheering… "

The Terror says...

Targul comes staggering around the corner pointing his bow at the fallen beast. With a loud cry he starts firing arrow after arrow into the motionless corpse, "TAKE THAT YOU HIDEOUS BEAST!"

Once he calms down he will thoughtfully try to re-trace his steps to remember where on the beast he left his sword. You can see him thinking hard as he stands back and begins running at the creature. He'll then pull up, shake his head, walk away to approach it from a different angle and then start running at it again.

After two or three attempts, he'll finally remember where on the creature this sword should be and then start digging in that location to recover it.

The men on the walls report that the enemy has gone quiet. They seem to be stunned and uncertain of what to do.

The castellan directs some of the militia to retrieve pieces of the fort's last ballista from storage. Hauling up the pieces and assembling it on the northwest tower will take the better part of a half hour, but it will be available soon enough.

Targul, apparently having clawed his way back up the steep hill, is quietly let in through the front gate. He starts shooting at Lennithon's corpse, and appears to be very badly injured.
_____

Down in the cavern, Cratol and Onwen find a large number of items in the bottom of the handcart they retrieved. Of particular note:

-6 holy symbol amulets, steel with silver inlay, very finely crafted. The front of each bears the symbol of a deity. Most of them bear the symbol of Torm, but Helm and Ilmater are represented as well. The rear side bears a small inscription with the symbol of the Order of the Gauntlet, along with the name and rank of the individual who wore the amulet in life. There is also a hidden arcane mark on each, with a unique series of runes. Onwen suspects that a diviner with notes on these marks would have few difficulties scrying for the location of a particular amulet.
-A linked pair of Sending Stones. Onthar had shown you these before, but they had not worked while the disrupting magic was in play.
-A large coin pouch with 50 platinum, 100 gold, and 100 silver within. It looks like something Onthar tucked away for any expenses plaguing the caravan while on the road.
-A strange plaque with the image of a coiled rope on it. Once a day, it can cast a modified version of the spell Rope Trick. The created dimensional space is larger (As many as twenty medium creatures could fit within), and it lasts for 2 hours rather than 1.
-A Handy Haversack, with enough musical instruments within the main pouch to outfit a fair sized band. The right pouch contains several tomes, mostly stories, poems, and songs about events around the sword coast. One large book of poems seems to have been penned by the deceased bard, and mainly is concerned with the misadventures of Sir Onthar's men. It does favorably mention the conduct of the Silver Blaze in the piece he'd been writing about the fight with the bandits west of town. The left pouch of the haversack has been torn. Its enchantment is nonfunctional, and whatever items had been within are lost forever.

The full plate armor worn by Sir Onthar appears to have several minor enchantments. One makes it more comfortable to wear and keeps the interior clean, Onwen suspects the armor could be worn and slept in for weeks with only minor issues. Another improves the efficacy of the protection it provides (+1 AC), and the third makes it more difficult to strike vital areas (1in4 chance of any critical hits being reduced back to a normal hit.)

It occurs to the two that the surviving members of Onthar's group would likely wish to return at least some of this back to the rest of the Order.

Not long after, word comes down that the dragon has been slain. Apparently your comrades upstairs managed to kill the thing.

Cratol will give Onthars body, head and his armor to the group. He will give the holy symbols to then also. The sending stones, coin pouch, strange plague and the haversack he will keep for now. He feels that they can be handy yet. He will empty the hand cart and then prepare to head back out. He will open the door to see what is going on outside.

As Targul is let in, Poljen grins and claps him on the shoulder. "Brave, but foolish, my friend. Still, it has worked out, eh?" As the half-orc begins to pepper the dragon's remains with arrows, Poljen steps out through the sally port and calls down the hill to the men at the base.

"Hear me, brigands! Your dragon is slain! If you attack us, death awaits you as well! Leave now, and free your prisoners!" He returns inside and makes sure the gate is secure, then climbs onto the walls by the gate to see any reactions, or responses.
