As dusk approaches, Fay collects the scout element and heads back to report. "We found the curs' bivouac. They be using rings within rings to guard. It be well thought out. Evil they may be, but stupid they be not. We should keep a cold camp again methinks. What shall we do on the morrow?"
Poljen thinks a moment, then asks the group. "So the kobolds are staying with the road, eh? And the trail of the army is not being covered. I am tempted to go remove that rearguard so they don't show up attacking OUR rear. How many are in that group, besides the three mages?"
Poljen gets a fuller accounting of the kobolds, and decides, "We have not enough numbers. Even if Tallis, Lia and Elyria were still with us. That is more than I had realized. Never mind. We shall simply keep our eyes peeled behind us for trouble."
Upon finding a suitable campsite Lia nods. " This does look good Tallis. If you want to take first watch later Mari can follow you and I will watch until sunup. We should probably skip a fire again to be safe. I'm not going to communicate anymore with Poljen tonight. There is not a whole lot to add. Plus I might need to use that divine energy tonight in case we are attacked. "
Day Three
The next morning, Fay finds that the enemy shifted direction on leaving their campsite. They are now traveling Southwest. You pick up their trail and resume following.
Day Four
Either they have a weather mage among them, or they coordinated their maneuvers with weather predictions. It started raining this morning, soon turning into a torrential downpour. All prior traces of the army's movements are quickly obliterated, they slow down, making plentiful use of the Mold Earth cantrip to erase the new tracks made in the muddy soil until the ground dries again. Fortunately, you have skillful eyes on them, rather than just relying on tracks.
Day Six
The army shifts direction slightly more west. They're heading straight for the mountains now.
Lia's group spots a large group of armed humans heading in their direction, several hundred of them.
Lia looks at the humans and smiles. " It looks like our help is here. At last. Tallis, do you know any of the leaders from the other cities? It might be better if you spoke to them since you are the head of the militia from Greenest. They might listen to you more than a member of a mercenary company like myself. "
Mari has a half smile on her face. She takes out a vial of poison and studies it again for a moment. Lia watches this with a quizzical look. Mari shrugs, grins and puts the vial away.
