It is a long night. The sounds of the swamp seem deafening at times, and your rest is interrupted on multiple occasions.
First a band of zombies wanders too near for the amulets to help. Fortunately they prove unable to begin to penetrate Poppo's barrier. It takes some time, but dispatching them in succession as they push stupidly up against the wall of force proves a simple enough matter. When done, your campsite is partially ringed with a semicircular mound of corpses.
Then comes, of all things, a large rock. It hurtles out of the dark, bounces off Poppo's barrier, and then all is still again. Some of you search around, but there is no sign of who or what threw the rock
Finally, some manner of spirit slips up and tries to invade Poljen's body while he is on watch. Fortunately the barbarian manages to drive the spirit back out before it can force him to cause much damage, and then the wily undead is driven off.
Finally, dawn comes, and light begins peeking over the horizon.
With the barrier fading out, you are packing up to move on. But then you spot movement to the west. Rising up out of the water is a large humanoid figure.
At first you think it is another dragonkin, but on second glance, the more attentive among you realize the features are off. This appears to be one of the lizardfolk, another bestial race indigenous to this region.
The particular specimen before you is impressively big, nearly 7 feet in height, and sporting a large yellow and red tinged frill, marking him as a male of his kind. Source 1f
He bears weapons, including what appears to be a dwarven made greataxe slung over his back. But he is currently brandishing none of them, and instead seems to be waiting. Waiting for you presumably, given the pointed stares he has for the group.
[Everyone make a Constitution save for a poor nights rest, DC 10. Fail, and take a -1 on ability checks for the day. Just a minor debuff, since you all got at least some sleep. Yes, you did get the benefits of a long rest.]
Poppo crawled out of his bedroll sluggishly when told it was time to break camp. Too tired to cook, he instead munched on a piece of jerky as he stared blankly at the ground. After a few minutes he pulled out his spellbook and began to prepare his daily spells. He finished up at the same time as everyone else was ready to depart.
When they reached the giant lizard man, he peaked out from around Velon's leg and said, "Ooh, he's a big fella!" Poppo gave the lizard man a friendly wave and said, "Hi, Mr. Lizard man!"
Finishing his dawn watch, Jack is up and about and helping the rest of the group to gather their belongings as the lizard warrior emerges from the morning mists.
He taps Poljen lightly on the shoulder with a gloved hand and whispers under his breath: "Easy there, big feller… This one seems willing to parley, at least that's what it looks like. Anyone of you here proficient with their lingo ? I've had a few run-ins with Lizard Folk in the past, and they can be… unpredictable, I think, is the word I'm looking for. Be easy but be ready for his moves, I'll see if I can go around him and make sure he's on his own."
He then does his best to stand behind the barbarian's bulky frame and tries to back away to the edge of the camp as discreetly as possible.
When he reaches Lia he whispers: "I can try and slip through the reeds and see if there are anymore of them around. I could take our new drow friend with me and try and flank, from this side there… ", Jack points to a cluster of tall reeds and moldy trees rising out of the mud about 15 paces to their left.
"Do I have your blessing, Lirimaer ?"
Out of Character:
- Perception check to detect anymore lizards or any other impending threats inside the mist.
- If Lia agrees, he'll slip into the fog away from the lizard's line of sight (Stealth check). Otherwise he'll stay at the back of the group, ready to disappear into the mist for a sneak attack if things get prickly.
- Constitution check included.
As the sun rises Lia exits her trance. She stretches her arms skyward for a moment. Working with the others to break down the camp she converses with her companions. " Good morning everyone. Little Cook's hut worked very well. One thing about adventuring with a halfling… you will never go hungry. " Ske grins at Poppo. Lia steps off to the side with her mirror and water in hand. She works for a little while and grins as she is now satisfied at her appearance. Lia bows her head and prays to Sune for blessing upon the group and herself.
She tenses up as the huge lizardmen appears in front of them. Lia walks over to the others. " We need someone that is a smooth talker to deal with this. Ionneg and Velon.. I think you two would be useful in this. Can either of you communicate with this type of creature? " Hearing Jack whisper to her she looks at him and nods. " Go. " Lia looks at the others. " Everyone be ready for action but draw no weapons. We don't need to make this creature think that we have aggressive intentions. They might surround us out in the mist as we speak. "

As the dawn watch comes to a close, Oswald and Jack begin to wake the party. Oswald is heading to take down the remnants of the alarm, the parts not triggered by the now mound of zombies when he notices the Lizardfolk.
Wiping sleep from his eyes, Oswald prays to Lathander to keep him vigilant; casting guidance on himself to lessen the effects of a poor night's sleep.
Observing that the creature is just standing there, Oswald realizes that this is likely an ambush attempt. It is a classic trick of misdirection, focus on one point to let your guard down to others.
He begins looking around the area while quietly informing the group one by one. "This is likely an ambush. His allies are able to remain under the water like him, and could be surrounding us as we speak. I believe that Poppo's hut is likely why they haven't attempted to move on us. We need to proceed with caution and don't advance forward without a proper plan."
When Oswald goes to tell Amber Jack, He realizes that he can't find him. Knowing Jack, he likely is investigating this himself. Quietly, he prays to Lathander to watch over Jharen. He then begins to observe the creature in return, attempting to identify his intent; though difficult due to his lack of knowledge of these creatures and their thought patterns.
Out of Character: Guidance on himself to aid him in his Constitution save. Insight on the creature. Perception on the area to look for more Lizardfolk. The alarm is still set up and armed.

Jack slips off to the side stealthily and makes his way around. He has to get in the water and swim, but fortunately the local area seems free of the worst creatures.
He finds them easily enough, the lizardfolk man's companions. About three dozen warriors. They're not making particular efforts to conceal themselves, just hanging back where they are hidden by fog from the small island.
They also lack the terse anticipation Jack associates with impending expected conflict, ambushes in particular. Though that does not necessarily mean much.
Back on the island, Oswald finds he cannot get a good read on the face of the creature before him.
