As the party enters Greenest, they attract quite a bit of attention. With Tallis at your fore, you're barely challenged at the gates, but news of newcomers passes quickly, and the party is soon surrounded by people asking questions. People missing loved ones are asking for some sign of them, and merchants too afraid to leave want to know if the road is safe again.
You don't see signs of hardship here, the people are in good health, just worried.
Tallis waves townsfolk out of the way, making promises that they'll have answers soon enough. She leads you to a large 2 story building. "Town Hall, Governor Nighthill lives and works here."
You're ushered into a large meeting room. Shortly afterwards, Governor Nighthill enters. He's a tall human, middle aged, with black hair. He is accompanied by a young dwarf, with thick but short trimmed hair and beard, both a bright red. The latter is introduced to you as Escobert, the governor's Castellan.
Tallis says, "Sir, these people are part of a relief force sent from Baldur's Gate. Another score will arrive soon with supplies. They cleared the Western road on their way in, but there's no telling how long that will last, we're facing something big here. I think you'll want to hear what they have to say."

Lia starts as she receives a mental message from the strange bard. She wonders if her mind is being read or if this is a one way form of communication. She grits her teeth as she doesn't like someone having access to her mind in any way. Being unable to stop the message she gazes at Nyazahr with a calm look visible on her face. She nods to her as if in agreement and them looks back up front. She would look into this in the future.
Having entered the city she shakes her head. "I'm no military expert but it's obvious to me that the town's defenses are woefully inadequate. The keep is the only structure that any serious enemy would have a problem with. It's not large so if the walls are breached I would doubt most of the townspeople would be able to take shelter. " Lia frowns and looks at her companions wondering if they feel the same way.
Cahleth introduces himself both Governor Nighthill and the red dwarf Escobert. "Thank you for having us to your fair city, what a charming community you have hear" [Cahleth is trying to ease any worry they may have through flattery. He also is aiming to get-off-on-the-right-foot should such social capital be needed later].
He quickly informs them of the highlights, following Tallis's open. "We have been sent here to aid and assist.... Tell me, how can we best help the people of Greenest in this time of need?"
Sar'ai is just standing with an unconcerned posture. The wizard's cowl pulled up over her head and shading just enough of her face that just the glint of her amethyst eyes can be seen, but not enough to reveal they are rolling at the exchange of "Formalities".
Elanna has since resumed her perch atop the half-drow's shoulder and is moving her head in disconcerting ways taking in the surrounding town. Sar'ai will remain quiet unless her input is asked, but she does listen to the residents of Greenest speak, analyzing every word for any peculiarities.
Targul answers Lia since this is an area that he has a little more knowledge in. "These towns weren't meant for any great defense. The people who live her know that. They would be sacrificed for the greater war. The fort is just to slow down any attackers or provide some defense against bandits and raiding parties."
He pauses for a moment to think which puts a sever strain on his face. "In fact, I think we're here to find out why anybody would pay any attention to a town like this, at all. Since it's obviously not a strategic location, there must be something else to it."
After answering Lia, Targul will wait for the more diplomatic to engage the town's leaders.
At the half-orc's words, Sar'ai raises an eyebrow, "An astute observation, Targul. One would not assume a man of the sea such as yourself would have that level of knowledge on the tactical positions of landlocked keeps." Mildly impressed by Targul's keen insight, and hoping it's not just a fleeting moment of lucidity, Sar'ai, speaking as if the fact that the townsfolk can clearly hear her is of little concern, adds, "Do you have further wisdom to dispense as to why this town would be of import aside from the apparent ease with which it could be taken? As others have alluded to, the fact that such a strong magical barrier has been imposed in the area would relate that there may be more going on here than would be evident… " The half-drow then looks to the human governor and his dwarf castellan as she utters those last words.

Onwen hangs to the back of the room during the meeting, observing but leaving the formalities and the conversation to others in the party. The hood of his robes are down, revealing his face as he looks about the room sizing up the people there but generally just trying to stay out of the way.
