Penelope, the 5'4" human woman with an olive complexion and long black hair pulled back into a ponytail, turns to the well-dressed half-elf attempting to aid her and says, "Oh I would be delighted to show you, dear." She gives him a wink as she silently mouthes "Thank you," to him.
The elven woman supposed to sing tonight looks at Nikolaos and 'Penelope'. "I intend to perform the ballad of lady Filauria. Those instruments appear to be of fine make, and you seem to know them, so I think we can perform together tonight."
"The ballad is a tale of love and loss. A mandolin and a lute accompanying it would be quite appropriate, if you keep the volume low. Beyond that, just match the mood and pace of the story, and we should do well. Does this work for the pair of you?"
"Ugh, gross," Perry thinks to himself, "I came here to try and get the attention of the Silver Blaze. Playing second fiddle to an Elf singer isn't going to work to get their attention. I need to play my song. Man, I really didn't want to have to do this… "
Penelope turns to the Elf and says, "Actually I'm not very good at musical improvisation like that without first knowing the song."
Perry thinks to himself, "I actually am that good. That would be child's play."
Penelope continues and strums her mandolin once, "Are you sure you don't want an opening act? Allow me to play one for you and the audience will be energized for the main star!"
Specific Action: Casting Suggestion (DC 15) on this Elf through the Canaith Mandolin, giving her disadvantage on the save. It should cancel out her Fey Ancestry and make it a straight roll.

Poljen's countenance turns to a scowl as he listens to Mari's words, and then Velon's declaration. "So, you were keeping all this to yourself. You did not tell any of us of this, save supposedly for Fay, who I think many of us would agree is smitten with you. Then when Silas confronted you, you came clean." He sits back and crosses his arms. "This… disturbs me. I find it too convenient. Mari, I have considered you a friend for some time now. After we rescued you in Greenest, took you in… you saw us defeat that blue dragon. You saw our methods, our styles, the fact we help others. And you did not have faith in us. Save for the love-struck bard, that is."
He pauses, then glances at Velon and Lia, then turns once more to Mari. "A more suspicious man would say you only confided in one you could manipulate. You only made a 'final choice' when forced to." The others note that the barbarian is keeping his hands away from his weapons. "Velon and Lia are willing to accept you. I... Do not. Not as before. They are probably more forgiving than I am. I will keep my eyes on you. If I fear you are betraying us, I will not hesitate to take action." He turns to Velon and Lia. "She is your responsibility. But I will not allow her to threaten us or our mission again. If I do not think I have time to consult with you, I will act." He remains seated, waiting for responses.
Tazskan, was about to get up and leave then remains seated taking note of Poljens last comment.
"I just have two querries now, who is was this bard named Fay,"? He, looks first to Poljen, then to the rest of the group for an answer.
He then looks at Mari, showing a mixture of concern and sympathy.
"Mari, am I safe to assume that Silas, had you perform an oath, or similar. For joining the blaze, or renouncing the Zhentarim"?
Out of Character: Tazskan, will wait for an answer hint (Any will suffice) here. Before leaving, ie going to his room.
Nikolaos raises an eyebrow in suspicion at the admitting of lack of talent, after asking for permission to perform. He wonders if she is not talented how she got her hands on such a beautiful instrument? Perhaps an inheritance, or theft, or perhaps she has some other hidden agenda.
He watches the pair and rubs the symbol of Lathander hanging from around his neck.
Poljen's response both stings Velon a bit and is a relief to some extent as well. He did not expect their protector to be as forgiving, but had a small sliver of hope that the meeting would go better than he really expected. On the other hand Poljen's words were actually quite reasonable, and he did not demand her dismissal or death. In the end he must admit to himself that he is pleased with this response.
"Your words are both wise and fair, Poljen." He glances at Mari with a frank expression as if to say that this is the bed she has made, and Poljen very much has the right to feel this way. "As our chief protector we probably should ask no less than vigilance against such threats, and as always we trust in you to do what you must. Mari will be the responsibility of Lia and I." He gives Mari another glance as if to say 'don't make me regret this.'
Taz, Fay is Lia's son. He was fighting with us up until just before we assaulted the castle, having fallen prey to the diseases of the swamp we were in. He is recovering currently. I am sorry, I figured some of the newer members here may be confused. I'm happy to chat with you any time on any questions you may have about the Blaze before we met you, although Poljen, Lia, and Cratol are the only ones here now that were there at the beginning of the tail.
"So, I for one would like to have my breakfast." Velon sits down with the group. "I would like all of your ideas on how to deal with the Zhentarim before we land again. Between Mari and Chasorth, I have been warned that they may do things like ambush us or frame us for murder in one of the cities we visit, trick us into a fight with another group, attack us when we are vulnerable after fighting the cult, or attack the castle while we are away. I certainly wonder if we should always travel in at least small groups in the cities. I am not sure what we should do if framed and someone comes to arrest us. Fighting back and killing city guard would not make a good name for the Blaze, but sitting in prison is not an option either. What do you all think?"
Out of Character: For those who are eager to get on with other business, I'm doing what I can to address these issues and keep it moving. The Mari twist is certainly intriguing, but I'm sure everyone's perspective is different. Sorry for the long posts lately. Velon will be relieved when there is less drama to deal with and others have a chance to shine. He'd rather be in a fight than in this situation, in some regards!

Mari looks at the huge barbarian sadly. "Poljen, I am very sorry. You are correct that I didn't renounce the Zhentarim until confronted by Silas. It was a forced decision. I'm glad that I had to choose and could quit riding the fence. I swear that I would have done nothing to harm the Blaze before that though. I chose the Blaze sometime before the Silas confrontation however. Being with the Blaze gave me a sense of purpose and a true feeling of family. I would have abandoned the Zhentarim before but I was afraid for my life. I'm not a strong warrior like you Poljen. You don't know what they are like. It wouldn't have been a quick death." She shivers at the thought of it.
"I didn't share this with Fay to manipulate him. He was indeed quite smitten with me. He wouldn't stop pursuing me. I cared for him but I'm not a good person. I told him that I wasn't good enough for him. He kept pressing me. I really felt that he should be with a better person. That is why I told him of my Zhentarim ties. There was the hope that he would quit pursuing me. It changed nothing with him." She sighed softly.
The blond glances at Taz and shakes her head." I took no oath to either renounce the Zhentarim or join the
Silver Blaze. Silas didn't ask for that. He wouldn't really have the authority to make me take an oath to join the Silver Blaze. He isn't a member himself and it would mean nothing. I'm not actually a member now. I would like to be though. One day maybe… "
LIa looks up and at the group." I can understand everyone's misgivings. I am furious still. She did come out and tell us this when she didn't have to. Silas would have told us before if he was going to. I imposed certain restrictions upon her staying. She will not leave the sky castle alone and she will not leave without permission from Velon, Poljen or myself. This will help ease fears. Is it perfect? No, it isn't. We can't just turn her out though. If she is false she could really damage us with all the inside information she possesses. We can't kill her since she did come forward and admit to something very damaging to her when she didn't need to. It will take a long time for me to trust her again if ever. I am willing to let her attempt to earn it back though. Hopefully everyone else feels the same." Lia shrugs." As to safety precautions I agree that we should always travel in small groups while in cities. No one should be alone."
