LIa grunts as the blade strikes with great force. She curses as she feels herself losing control of her bane spell. Holding her holy amulet aloft she draws upon Sune's power to heal herself. Healing energy begins knitting her together.

Out of Character: : She cast cure wounds level 3 on herself. Well her concentration was broken so no bane.

Paul, his advantage attacking her will be cancelled out by her cloak of displacement. If he hits her on the first attack then he will have advantage on the second attack as the cloak won't protect her any more that turn.

Velon's first firebolt narrowly misses Perry, the tiefling quickly moving his head and shoulders while still playing his alluring songs as the flame shoots by. Velon grins as he continues to advance, "Good". It would be disappointing of a new potential ally was struck down too easily.

The paladin continues his slow, lumbering charge, if one could call it that, slowing down a bit as he pulls his shoulder back and then thrusts his arm forward unleashing another gout of flame in Perry's direction. His friends can see him grinning far more than he would be if this were a serious matter, and that his tactics are far less aggressive than they might otherwise be.
Out of Character:
I took the liberty of moving Poljen along with Velon on the battle map. Thanks for that, Daishain!

Round 2
AC=22 *No crits, disadvantage on all attacks against him until Velon takes damage in a round
HP=71.

Zarra watches from the sidelines with a frown, yet still with interest as well. She was half tempted to join in, on the side of Perry and Lia, but at the same time was in agreement that this was perhaps not the bed way to prove this newcomer before he was able to join the party.

Perry yells out in a panic as Lia is struck ferociously by the raging barbarian, “Lia, NO!”

“Wow, he isn’t pulling any punches, even against Lia,” Perry thinks. Still, Perry is impressed that Lia managed to take the hit like a champion. His eyes well up a bit, seeing the determination and competitive look in her eyes, and he yells, “We still have a chance Lia, I think it’s time for our plan B! In the meantime, I’ll try and disrupt your boyfriend to give you a better chance.”

Suddenly, Perry ducks as another Firebolt comes whizzing by his head, “Whew,” he breathes in relief.

Perry then begins to play another lullaby with his mandolin, this time directed at Velon. Then, he looks towards Lia and sings,

You better run, I’ll try to help you myself,
Don’t wanna see your blood, don’t be a macho elf,
You want to be tough, but take care of yourself,
So beat it, but you wanna win bad!
Just beat it! Beat it!
♫


Out of Character: Perry will cast Hypnotic Pattern again (DC 15) at Velon. Velon you have disadv on the save. Lia you gain another 8 temporary hitpoints and can move your full movement as a reaction as you dance around him without provoking opportunity attacks . Also, I forgot to move, I will move myself on the grid 30 ft away from the two monsters.

Velon sees a menagerie of colors swirling in front of him as he trots forward. He blinks his eyes and begins to feel a foggy haze creep into his mind.

Out of Character: Rolling Velon's wisdom saves with disadvantage and bless. Bless may drop here if he fails.

LIa winks at Poljen as she moves around him in a circle to AL22. "You will have to do better than that to take me out Poljen. I thought you would hit harder than that." She is hoping to make him act more recklessly.

The Awakened says...

When Velon tells Nikolaos about the Zhentarim connection to Mari, his eyes widen and he says "I guess that's what has everyone on edge. I just thought everyone was overreacting a bit. In the future we may want to hire from sources that we trust. That have already done some vetting for us. I trust the hunters that we hired because they are allies of Cratol. Perhaps when we travel to places in the future each of us can use our own trusted connections. I could contact the church of Lathander and you could talk to your order. I'm sure all of us have connections we could use to help us. It will be slower than hiring from taverns but the security would be worth it."
At the suggestion of a duel to test abilities of the newcomers Nikolaos perks up "I think that would make an impressive spectacle so long as no one gets too carried away! I don't envy you Perry, I had a much easier time joining getting lucky and showing up at the right time to prove my abilities."
Just before the battle begins Nikolaos plays an uplifting tune on his lute and begins to float above the contestants positioning himself for the best view. He then clears his throat and speaks impossibly loud giving a moment by moment account of the contest.
"And here they go! Spells readied and arms bared! Poljen and Velon charge towards Lia and Perry! The Priestess and Bard try to slow the Juggernaut to no avail! As the Paladin shoots flame narrowly missing the newcomer! The Snow Leopard leaps on his prey with a savage attack! But the beauty of Sune dances away and brushes it off! What's this!? It looks like the music has soothed the advancing warrior! Looks like it is two versus one for now! Can the Dragon Slayer stand up to both of the charmers at once?!"

Out of Character: had a little catching up to do. Enjoying this fight.

Specific Action: casting Fly spell to stay above the action and out of reach from most spells but on hand to heal when the time comes. Then using Thaumaturgy for the play by play.

Poljen's head keeps swiveling, taking in all aspects of the battle. He replies to Lia, "But your spell is gone… If I did not hit hard, why heal yourself? Ha!" After one more quick glance he shrugs and says, "Taking you out is not my goal. I will leave that to Velon! The goal is to test the newcomer. So now I will be more direct." He turns and quickly runs right at Perry, once more brandishing the great axe almost like a staff and takes two quick swings at the tiefling.

Out of Character: : He suffers an AoO from Lia, but is not too worried about that. Two Reckless Attacks at Perry after reaching AJ-27. And… let's leave it at that for now.
