Poljen frowns. "Those returning to the temple will at least have some shelter for as long as the doors will hold. And perhaps the tunnel can be used to get people inside. But I am worried about all the others as well who have not arrived. They will soon be cut off." He stands on the wall of the fort using his spyglass. He needs to evaluate the size of the force that will block the regular folk. "Is it possible if we hit the advance guard of their force, tie them up for a short amount of time, we can get most of those folks past the enemy? And Escobert, can you fit more people inside? Every spare space must be used." Knowing Lia will argue his potential idea he says, "We can send some out if we have enough to help, while others explore the tunnel. After all, it is not going anywhere."

Lia glances at Poljen. " The tunnel could possibly lead us to where can we help both groups. The enemy is already almost at the fort. Going out to help them is just suicide. Noble, but still suicide. You might get to them but there is no getting back to the fort. "
OLC: Too funny Paul. I responded to your post. When I submitted my post I then saw you had already edited your post anticipating what Lia would say *smile* You know her well.

"Escobert, can you hold the fort without the help of the Blaze? Some of us may wish to go assist those trapped at the temple, but we need to know we aren't risking a bird in the hand for two in the bush."
He waves a hand at Poljen and Targul to indicate they shouldn't waste any energy trying to decipher the idiom.
Sir Onthar shakes his head right away at Poljen's comments, "Lia is correct, it is frustrating, but they seem to be sending nearly all of their forces towards that ramp at once. We would be overwhelmed in less than a minute going out there again, and our deaths would serve no purpose. Better to find some other way to strike at them."
"But there is hope, this foe has gone to great lengths to disable this town with no casualties. Furthermore, the commander seems the sort to take pride in his word, and he spoke of people dying only if they resist. Only when their efforts were thwarted did they use force. I suspect that the people out there who do not give them a great deal of trouble will be bound rather than slaughtered. I do not know what fate awaits, but if that is the case, them simply being captured gives us additional time to find a way to help them."
Escobert responds to Cahleth's question, "We could get everyone within the walls if you can find a way to get them back here, though the courtyard will be packed enough that the fighters will have a tough time shifting position. As to holding the fort, given what we've seen, we can hold almost indefinitely with or without you. They lack siege equipment, and while their numbers pin us within these walls, it would be a slaughter if they tried simply rushing us."
Sir Onthar speaks up again, "That actually worries me, they have thoroughly planned this out at every stage so far. They must have some advantage we have yet to see if they hope to finish the job. Perhaps the mage we missed in town has something nasty in mind? We must remain vigilant."
"That said, if there is a route down there… It would be of great use. I take it the Silver Blaze is volunteering for the task of exploring this passage?"

Poljen nods grimly at Sir Onthar's assessment. "Though with what we found at that bandit camp, I fear more for any men they capture. They might be slaughtered at some point, once the women are secured. Regardless, then the tunnel may be our best bet to reach the chapel. We should prepare to explore."
As they discuss what might have been missed, Poljen's brow furrows even more. "Then there is a distinct possibility there will be a traitor inside these walls. Make sure to keep plenty of men watching the gates and all possible access points."
Out of Character: : Any chance of a short rest prior to the tunnel?
Out of Character: You could take a short rest, or even a long rest for that matter. Though I'll make no guarantees about whether or not your rest would be interrupted
To be frank, Onthar among others would be angry at you for a long rest, but it is mainly a matter of how much time you are willing to risk giving your foe rather than any hard limitations.
Cahleth is torn. He knows the party could use a rest, but an hour spent catching our breath may cost lives. "Let us push on and try to save these folks. I know we are not at full strength, but perhaps with a little tact and cunning, we can avoid an all our blood bath."
