While standing around discussing the order to enter the passageway Lia notices Cratol quietly walking into it. She frowns. " I guess that is decided. Cratol has already headed in. Let's go everyone. " She follows the monk in with bow at the ready.
In response to Lia asking him if her suggestion made sense, Targul responds "Yea, sure that makes sense." Even as he says this you can see the glazed over look in his eyes that tells you that he has no read idea of what you're talking about.
Targul falls into the formation behind Poljen. In his experience it never hurt to have a large meat shield to walk behind and this was as good a time as any to take advantage of it.
Seeing Cratol testing the floor with a staff, Targul remarks loudly (Even though he thinks he's whispering), "That's a great idea! I should have done that when I came through here the first time!"
Sar'ai glares at Poljen as he puts his hand forth in an effort to prevent her and Nyzahr from moving forward. "You really do have the tactical prowess of rabid mongrel, don't you?" The half-drow relaxes her posture, her tone becoming increasingly sarcastic, "Yes, by all means, keep back the ones who could most deftly scout ahead in a dark, potentially unstable tunnel. But why do that when you could just have the whole lot of us succumb to any potential threats… "
Sar'ai rolls her eyes and allows the others to pass by her.
With some jockeying for position, the group descends down the stairs. You go down quite a ways, a reasonable guess would put you level with or a little below the base of the hill the fort is built on.
The passage before you seems to have been carved from natural stone. It is straight and level, it is no dwarven stonecutting, but those who made this passage knew what they were doing.
There is no light you did not bring yourselves down here. The rusted remnants of torch sconces line the walls, but they are empty.
As Targul reported, there are some living creatures down here, mostly large rats that seem to have little fear of you, scurrying off only when approached.
You only go maybe 20 paces before you spot the first traces of webbing. Another 20 paces after that, you can see the blockage Targul mentioned ahead, a large web covers much of the passage, the desiccated corpses of rats hang from it. You have seen some spiders down here already, but none that would be capable of weaving such thick strands.
Cratol will use his staff to part the webbing and look through, if he does not see anything he will step through and have his staff ready. He will smack any rats that come to close but he is watching for any real big spiders.

Cratol does not see anything when he shifts the webbing, but his staff gets badly stuck when he tries to part the strands enough for passage. He can yank the staff back out with both hands and some effort, but it seems this web will not be easy to shift that way.
