Wow I completely overlooked the part about the disposition of the necromancers items. I think Onwen would certainly have gone through the items to see if there was anything of value that could forward his goal to include keeping or copying the wizards spell books and I don't think he would really hide the fact that he was doing so. If confronted about it he would take the stance of basically "Who are you to dictate what happens to the wizards possessions, or what knowledge should be retained versus destroyed?" If challenged on what he intends to do with the knowledge he may have gained he would indicate that it is no ones business but his own and admonish them if they assumed he had any evil intentions. Some of the group may be Harper agents but he would remind them that he is not and does not feel himself beholden to that organization or their values. If they tried to order or otherwise convince him to destroy the books or items he would politely explain "I'm here for the pursuit of knowledge, some of which you may find distasteful, but that does not diminish its value, and I don't intend to allow ignorance and fear to bring about its destruction." If anyone then treated him with suspicion as a result he would not necessarily take offense and be hateful toward the person but rather he would see their views as irrelevant and treat them as such. The exception to this is that he would not likely do anything that he knew to be illegal; for instance if possession of necromancy paraphernalia was somehow illegal he would not openly challenge this by taking any of the necromancers items or copying any of his spells unless it was of great value in terms of resurrecting his love. A spell like raise undead he would copy if it were not outright illegal to do so, but if it were illegal that particular spell would not be worth it to him and he would not insist on copying it. In other words he does a cost-benefit analysis with everything…
That's very good Aeric. Lia will be in the group that is suspicious. I understand how your character won't care that she is suspicious of him. She won't treat him with hatred or show any animosity towards him. There will just be a lack of trust there. She will assume he is probably up to no good with them but can't prove it. Lia will not want to patrol off with him alone or anything like that.

That is a fair defense, and Geoffroy would hear Onwen out on why he wishes to make use of such knowledge. The cleric would listen and while give his warning or admonishment of dealing in such magic, even if for just research or study, the morninglord would decide to trust the wizard for the time being. There would be much concern though, and he would for a time at least keep a more watchful eye on his activities. There would be some distrust, by he will try to give the benefit of the doubt.
He will likely keep his sister from interacting too much with Onwen or from being alone with the necromancer, if for no other reason then over protectiveness. Still, generally I want to play my character as not too quick to judge and willing to allow others their path as long as it is not outright evil, though will voice his own beliefs on such and not withhold his feelings on certain acts or decisions. Again though, my preference may be to simply have Geoffroy be distracted, allowing Onwen to do what he needs to. If the others bring such activities to the Morninglord's attention, discussion and argument may arise.

I was wondering Thomaslee. Is Geoffroy's sister traveling with us on this adventure? I assume she has been part of the group for awhile now along with you. If it's okay with you I will assume that her and Lia are good friends.

Yes, she would have been travelling with the party for a while, though I have considered whether or not everyone would actually know Geoffroy's squire was his sister or even that she was a girl. I am open for advise and suggestions on such, and am fine with either as long it may have been kept secret at first.
Yes, I don't see a reason why my character would not allow Elyria to be close friends with Lia. I could see Geoffroy feeling that the wood elf may well be a good influence on his sister. Perhaps, at least, Lia might know the truth with Elyria revealing such to the her.

Sounds like those most likely to object have spoken. While actually desecrating the dead is illegal in most societies, regions disagree on what is considered desecration, and no part of the Sword Coast actually outlaws simple knowledge of necromancy.
With that in mind I think its fair to say that since none are apparently offering overt resistance to him taking it, Onwen would have openly made off with the necromancer's grimoire, or at least spent time copying it.
And so, the party's friendly necromancer gets a bonus item. In the interest of not disturbing game balance too far, I'm going to say the deceased mage used a particularly fiendish encryption for his personal notes. Once per level, you can attempt an Arcana check to fully decipher a spell from the grimoire, at which point you can copy it normally.
I'll determine what spell is produced randomly, though with some emphasis towards the necromantic line. I'm considering including a few custom spells, as you're using something outside the usual sources.
@Thomaslee traveling in close quarters with others like this is not exactly conducive to such secrets. You can probably manage to keep the fact that you're siblings a secret almost indefinitely barring bad luck. But the fact that Elyria is a girl probably would be uncovered in less than a week if not the very first day, and the fact that there is affection between her and Geoffroy is likely to come out not long after that.
I suspect it would be best to come clean after a while, if only to dispel mistaken assumptions of a romance between those two.
Once the truth comes out about her being female things should get interesting. I'm sure Geoffroy might not care for members of the group such as Poljen flirting with her. It could make for a little tension possibly with him being protective of his sister. Lia will try to watch over her as well. She knows how to keep Poljen in line *smile* Lia has experience dealing with his flirting.
I agree with your assessment and see the reason behind it. Especially since you do bring up the good point of wanting to dispelling any assumptions of romance between Geoffroy and his sister. A misunderstanding like that is one I definitely do not want to see happening.
As such, I think it would be good to have it that the truth comes out pretty quickly. Where, within a couple of days perhaps, Geoffroy's squire being a girl comes out and later at some point them being siblings. Though the two would wish to keeping such from generally being known to strangers or those outside the group, them being brother and sister.
Yeah, to say the least, he probably would offer a disapproving look towards any who tried flirting with his sister. Perhaps with annoyance from Elyria for such.
